Historia
In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (German for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. Imprisoned for more than two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism - but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

Truly remarkable story of love despite the horrific journey they had to endure. Literally, an edge of your seat page turner. Desperate to know what was going to happen next, I am at peace with how it ended. Not a dry eye throughout.

Suspenseful
Revisado: 02-12-19
I found this story to be so captivating and suspenseful. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I rather enjoyed the narration, but at times became a bit confused as to which character was speaking. I think there were times when the name of the character didn't match what was being said. Overall, this was a really good read!

Here at Audible, we know just how much of an impact a voice can have on a story - taking simple words and filling them with elation, wonderment, tragedy, or pure satisfaction. We rely on our narrators every day to bring our favorite stories and characters to life - to introduce us to new authors and genres, or even to a new (perhaps longer) commute. And though our narrators are the best story tellers in the business, it's usually someone else's that they're telling.

Incredible Story
Revisado: 11-23-18
I had no idea how incredible his story was and everything he had to endure. Yet he persevered and always remembered what he had been through. This book gave me a different perspective of very similar stories told by others that have survived the holocaust era.
