Great story and good fun
Revisado: 11-22-24
This whole series is fun. Great narration. The authors take the genre to the extreme, but they seem to like doing that and do it well. Read the whole Forgotten Ruin series, if you haven’t yet, to get the full story.

Historia
Scattered about the galaxy were the time-space Gates of a vanished but not forgotten alien race. In their time, long before the rise of the native civilizations, they had terrorized a hundred worlds—not from villainy but from folly, from tampering with the strands that held a universe together.
Now the task was to uproot these Gates, destroy their potency for mischief, take horror out of the hands of the few who hungered for power by misuse of the Gates.

Great story, poor narration
Revisado: 10-24-24
Read these books 40 years ago and loved them. It’s great to get race reacquainted with them. I had to reduce narration speed to .75 to be able to stand the narration. It was touch and go for a while, even so.

In “The Stickpin,” set in the Naxid War, Caroline Sula leads the resistance against the Naxid occupiers, and shows how a pleasant afternoon stroll can have deadly consequences to the enemy. Then in Impersonations, Caroline Sula has been posted to the planet Earth, a dismal backwater where careers go to die.

A must read following the Praxis trilogy
Revisado: 03-04-24
Three great stories that continue the character development of the characters of the Praxis trilogy and set the stage for the following novels. If you’ve finished the six main novels published to date, don’t despair. Take a short hop back in time to see what the characters were doing between wars. It’s also a joy to hear the original narrator’s great performance again.

Historia
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Beware. A great series that leads to disappointment
Revisado: 10-13-23
This is a great series and the author does a good job of making you care about the characters. Fantastic first book and I really enjoyed the series up until near
the end. Pay attention to the increasing dark foreshadowing as you progress through the books. By the end of the series, this becomes a tragic story that feels forced that direction. Very disappointing. There is a follow on series that I am unwilling to subject myself to.

Historia
Will’s journey from naïve apprentice to a mature wizard is almost complete, and his ever-growing mastery has reached unseen heights. But his power does not exist in a vacuum. His rising star threatens to eclipse the existing powers and a new balance must be found, one that either accepts his primacy or extinguishes his light. After Will’s resounding successes in the war with Darrow, the king plots to eliminate his young rival. Driven to desperation, Will is forced to negotiate for scraps between four brokers of power.

Be prepared to be disappointed
Revisado: 10-13-23
I liked the series and read the other reviews only after finishing the series. They’re all right, both good and bad. The foreshadowing led me to hope that what I thought might happen, would not. Nope. The author ruins everything for everybody, even the reader. I don’t need to read fiction to see a tragedy, when all I have to do is watch the news. Extremely hesitant to read anything else by this author at this point.

Sedate and innocuous
Revisado: 09-27-22
Don’t listen to this if you just enjoyed a Galaxy’s Edge book. Take a Nora Robert’s break in between. Good if you need a nice, dull, and pleasant story with some exploration of sexual and social issues. Nothing significant happens and nobody gets hurt beyond some bruises and burns. This was free, so I got what I paid for.

Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

Historia
The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

Revisado: 07-13-20
I bought this thinking it would be a great appetizer for the new Harry Dresden novel, but ended up binging on this and sequels until I was full. A light hearted story with a great main character with fun problems. Keep a few spare credits handy because one book rolls right into the next.

Your patience will be rewarded
Revisado: 11-05-16
What made the experience of listening to Off to Be the Wizard the most enjoyable?
This is just a fun, light-hearted story with a unique take on magic.
What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?
He has good comedic timing and has distinct voices for the characters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was near to giving up on this book by time the main character made it to the middle ages, but shortly thereafter had my first laugh out loud moment and was hooked.
Any additional comments?
This story is simple and fun. Much like a serial anime, don't expect deep philosophy or complex characters and enjoy it for what it is.
