Historia
At War with Ourselves is the story of helping a disruptive President drive necessary shifts in U.S. foreign policy at a critical moment in history. McMaster entered an administration beset by conflict and the hyper partisanship of American politics. With the candor of a soldier and the perspective of a historian, McMaster rises above the fray to lay bare the good, the bad, and the ugly of Trump’s presidency and give listeners insight into what a second Trump term would look like.

Fascination telling of Trump’s way of seeing the world. If he could have stuck to the plan McMaster developed we’d be better off. And what shameful actions by Rex Tillerson and Jim Mattis. Those two should be remembered as more interested in power than doing the right thing

Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Ridiculous narration
Revisado: 10-30-23
Outstanding story, well written and meticulously researched. It is a herculean task to sift through all of the self-serving versions of the events of the Wager, but Grann does it well, thoroughly and interestingly,
But the narrator! Every...word...has...a...dramatic...pause. It became so distracting as it went along. Grann should have investigated the list of narrators as well as he did the Wager

Historia
Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

Fascinating Story
Revisado: 03-28-23
I knew little of the Plains Indians until I listened to this book. Great research done by the author. The skill of the Comanches in warfare and their lifestyle was thoroughly described. Quanah Parker was a remarkable man, having his way of life taken from him yet very successfully adapting to the USA way of life. Great narration as well.

Historia
Renée Ballard is working the night beat again and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours only to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin. Ballard kicks him out but then checks into the case herself, and it brings a deep tug of empathy and anger. Bosch is investigating the death of 15-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally murdered and her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now, Ballard joins forces with Bosch.

Weakest Connelly book, uninspired narration
Revisado: 05-04-22
I’m a huge fan of Connelly’s Bosch series, but this book was so weak. The premise of chasing Daisy’s killer was good, but there didn’t seem to be enough material to fill a book. Even the partnering with Ballard could have been a great idea, but the wasted pages of Renee’s late show call outs were a meandering mess. The book makes progress on the Daisy case, then abruptly follows Renee chasing the art theft. Back to the Daisy case, now Renee is called out to the home of a pervy stand up comic. A drowning man on the beach, and Renee consoles the lifeguard. What a meandering mess. And the HORRIBLE back and forth with the two narrators. Welliver is great, as usual, but I didn’t care for or like Christine Lakin at all. When she voices Bosch, it sounds like she has a cold. And in any case, it was distracting going back and forth. A forgettable book.

In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency - a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

Inspiring leader
Revisado: 04-03-22
I am usually skeptical of autobiographies, as the author tends to exaggerate his accomplishments and downplay areas where he came up short. But Obama tells his story with humility, grace, and honest reflections of his successes and failures. Great stories of his family, concern for the effects of the presidency on his kids, and his relationship with Michelle. A very wonderful book.

Historia
Few US presidents have captured the imagination of the American people as has Harry S. Truman. In this biography, Robert H. Ferrell, widely regarded as an authority on the 33rd president, challenges the popular characterization of Truman as a man who rarely sought the offices he received, revealing instead a man who - with modesty, commitment to service, and basic honesty - moved with method and system toward the presidency. No other historian has ever demonstrated such command over the vast amounts of material on Truman's life.

Great book, iffy narration
Revisado: 05-03-21
The production of the recording was spiced together inelegantly. The narrator would read a sentence, then there would be an unnatural pause where you questioned if the playback had stopped, just to have the narration begin again.
Excellent book other than that.

Historia
Gifted storyteller Winston Groom, the best-selling author of Forrest Gump, has written the fascinating story of three extraordinary heroes who defined aviation during the great age of flight: Charles Lindbergh, Eddie Rickenbacker, and Jimmy Doolittle. These cleverly interwoven tales of their heart-stopping adventures take us from the feats of World War I through the heroism of World War II and beyond, including daring military raids and survival at sea, and will appeal to fans of Unbroken, The Greatest Generation, and Flyboys.
