Historia
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

Language is awful, narration is really bad!
Revisado: 12-27-24
Hard no for me, did not finish. Audio is horrendous. Mixing is very poorly done - you're literally going to have to change the volume every 3-5 minutes because the narrator is incapable of controlling her volume. One minute the volume is low and soft, then in the same section without any change in emotion or story line, she's shouting and your eardrums are going to burst. The language is too over the top, very off-putting. If the story had been a bit better I may have tried, but the language is just filthy and inappropriate to the story. Couldn't get past the halfway point - between the audio quality and the language, it was too much. No one likes to have a narrator screaming "g$& da$?!&," "fu@$," and "Je$&@ Chr$$@" in their ear every few minutes.

Great mystery and suspense!
Revisado: 07-05-18
Absolutely loved this one! Great narration, fantastic storyline. Goes back and forth between two characters and two periods in time as the story unravels, giving you bits and pieces at a time. I had a pretty good idea of what was going on about halfway through, but it does twist and turn a lot. No spoilers! Listened to this one on a very long drive and it was perfect for the road trip. Definitely recommend! *** This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Living deep in poverty for most of his life, he's become resilient and flexible, but college education can only take him so far. Not bad...
Revisado: 07-05-18
This one wasn't bad, but it's less about a blackout and more about the life of a moonshiner and his family that go through a blackout about halfway through the story... The blackout isn't the primary topic of the book, it's barely secondary. While the story itself isn't bad, it wasn't at all what I was expecting so I was a bit disappointed. The title is a bit misleading - if you're looking for a book about an EMP or similar disaster, and the subsequent fallout, this likely isn't for you. This story is more about a long-term prepper and moonshiner, his family, and what their life is like in general when a blackout happens in the middle of their routine existence. The book is well-narrated, and was and easy enough listen, and was enjoyable on a long drive. *** This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

No real storyline...
Revisado: 07-05-18
I really wanted to enjoy this one, but it fell flat. The narration was excellent, but that's about the only thing that was good about it. The storyline was thin at best, and what was there was wholly unbelievable. Additionally, when it came to equipment such as breathing equipment and other tools, the author failed to do proper research resulting in a story that contains a number of errors. The language was also over the top. When there's a point to the language and it fits with the story, that's one thing, but this was cursing for the sake of cursing - it was really irritating and made it difficult to finish the book. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Really loved this one! It's a mix of a psychological thriller and mystery, telling the story of family coping with the murder of a husband and father, and wife coping with the sordid details surrounding his unknown life. No more spoilers, just listen! Would compare this one to Clare MacKintosh's work. Excellent, can't wait to see more from this author! ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Not bad...
Revisado: 06-22-18
This one's not bad... Easy to listen to and good narration. There are way too many storylines though for such a short book, and none of the characters is ever truly developed. The book doesn't really stick to any one genre, and seems to borrow entirely too much from other well-known movies and authors. It's a bit of a mash-up of every good sci-fi/horror drama you can binge on Netflix over the weekend. Personally, I think the authors have more talent than what is presented here, because all in all the various storylines aren't bad and could each be developed in to a very good book. Not a bad effort though, and an easy enough listen on a long road trip. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Revisado: 06-22-18
This is just the beginning to the book, only a couple of hours. It's a great start, but since it's not the entire story, hard to review in whole. Eager to hear the rest though and looking forward to the next installment. Good narration, keeps you in just enough suspense. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Great narration, not so funny humorous mystery...
Revisado: 06-07-18
The narration was outstanding! And I mean really, the narrator is talented - he actually did a great job of voicing a character talking on a cell phone! Hadn't heard that before, sounded great. So to that end, I'd love to listen to more of the narrator's work. But the story itself just wasn't for me. It was supposed to be funny, but it fell flat - I didn't see the humor, it was just silly. The main female character was grating and annoying. And the mystery wasn't really a mystery... So for folks that want something to listen to without really paying attention, this one's probably for you. Otherwise, I'd take a pass on this one. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Great story, not so great narration...
Revisado: 06-07-18
This is one I've got mixed feelings about. I really enjoyed the story, but I wish I'd read the book instead of the listening to the audiobook in this case. The narration was a mess, with several of the characters being voiced so robotically it was laughable and the main character being voiced almost childishly. It was distracted and took away from what was really an interesting and well-researched mystery. If you're a fan of art history, particularly surrounding what happened to the art stolen by the Nazis in World War II, then you'll enjoy this book. But I'd recommend reading it...***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***

Fast-paced multiple murder mystery...
Revisado: 06-07-18
Fast-paced and well-narrated mystery. This one was interesting and had a lot of mystery to it. One of the things about this book that some will like and some won't, is that it has several mysteries that are basically consecutive, not concurrent, so it really could be two to three books instead of one. It could make the storyline a bit hard to follow at times, but not terribly so. Lots of different characters and plenty of intrigue. As always, Bennett's narration was excellent - he always does a wonderful job of voicing characters with just enough difference to keep the reader engaged without being overwhelming. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***
