Historia
As raiders and explorers, the Vikings played a decisive role in the formation of Latin Christendom, and particularly of western Europe. Now, in a series of 36 vivid lectures by an honored teacher and classical scholar, you have the opportunity to understand this remarkable race as never before, studying the Vikings not only as warriors, but in all of the other roles in which they were equally extraordinary - merchants, artists, kings, raiders, seafarers, shipbuilders, and creators of a remarkable literature of myths and sagas.

Hari does it again
Revisado: 09-04-24
What to say? After listening to Hari’s Barbarians of the steppes, I moved onto The Viking Age and will keep going! I find Hari to be uniquely engaging presenter. I don’t know how he does it quite frankly.!

Historia
Johannes Brahms was a man of contrasts. His serious Teutonic music was balanced by joyful dance music. His kindness to working people with a biting, malicious wit reserved for those he encountered in artistic and aristocratic circles. Yet you can know this enigmatic genius though this 8-lecture series, which uses biographical information and musical commentary to link the complexities of Brahms the man with the electrifying music of Brahms the composer.

Historia
At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union to its surprise and delight found itself in control of a huge swath of territory in Eastern Europe. Stalin and his secret police set out to convert a dozen radically different countries to Communism, a completely new political and moral system. In Iron Curtain, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anne Applebaum describes how the Communist regimes of Eastern Europe were created and what daily life was like once they were complete.

Fascinating
Revisado: 10-21-23
Superb overview of the devastation Stalinism wreaked upon all aspects of society in Eastern Europe after WWII. Well written and well read. Really it’s required reading or listening for anyone interested in what Communism was - what we’re seeing in Putin’s turn towards authoritarianism and his anti west stance. History, unfortunately for Russia (and Ukraine) is repeating itself.

Historia
The word "barbarian" quickly conjures images of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan. Yet few people realize these men belong to a succession of nomadic warriors who emerged from the Eurasian steppes to conquer civilizations. It's a part of ancient and medieval history that's often overlooked, but for an accurate view of how the world evolved, it's essential. Covering some 6,000 miles and 6,000 years, this eye-opening course illuminates how a series of groups pushed ever westward, coming into contact with the Roman Empire, Han China, and distant cultures from Iraq to India.

Landmark Essays, Volume 2 continues a wonderful journey to the heart of the matter of our lives, to what matters most. It points out what's possible if we step outside of what we know, and recognize and embrace our capacity to bring forth an entirely new possibility for living—not because it is better, but simply because that is what human beings can do.

There's something distinctly different and more powerful about listening to these essays as opposed to simply reading them.
If you're willing to put the work in to a, and it does require real work , as anything significant does, you can get your life out of these and Landmark's other essays and work.
