Good but
Revisado: 06-11-24
It’s a great story, but why do I feel like I’ve heard this entire story before. Everything sounds familiar…. I’m calling out stuff before it happens and it just came out….

After nearly a year and a half without power, Jim Powell’s community has begun to stabilize. The Reset Roadhouse—Jim’s apocalyptic bar, restaurant, and trading post—gave his people something to do and helped expand his network of friends and contacts. Franklin never disappoints
Revisado: 03-26-24
It’s everything we’d hoped for in the newest book, although this book has far more humor. It’s easy to laugh out loud in several parts of the book. If you’ve read the whole Mad Mick series, this book ties in perfectly. You kind of know what’s coming, but the execution is hilarious. Jim is refreshingly Jim.
Listening to Kevin Pierce is home-sweet-apocalypse-home. It’s always a pleasure.

Historia
A rogue Russian nuke sails toward the harbors of Los Angeles in the hull of a ramshackle sailboat. Without destroying a single building, the bomb shatters the latticework of the American dream, toppling one piece of the economy after another. A group of Special Forces veterans and their prepper friends scramble for survival in a worldwide catastrophe so psychologically disruptive they are left questioning everything they ever believed to be true.

I stopped halfway through….
Revisado: 05-18-23
I couldn’t finish it. I’m not sure if it’s the writing, the narrator, or everything. The story is choppy. New characters introduced without warning or background in the middle of another character’s story.
There’s about 20 characters introduced in the first couple chapters with no introductory background information except for Jeff, who is the author, which is weird, and he’s apparently the most capable person at the compound. The Amazon description makes it sound like Jeff protecting his family, but there’s a whole slew of random people in the book and I haven’t reached the point where Jeff’s involvement in the compound is explained. One even dies right after his entrance. One arrives from the airport and is suddenly in a fox hole in the compound with her dad, evaluating her life of privilege.
This is poorly edited. There’s a clicking sound after sentences. The tones and voices are different from one sentence to the next. They pieced together sentences and you can hear the difference. The inflection and accents are way over the top. The narration is a distraction from the story. One part even sounds like it was recorded, then the author changed the book, and they didn’t edit out what was already recorded.
There’s should be an automatic participation refund if you somehow manage to finish listening. I’ll skip to book 2.

I hoped it would get better
Revisado: 02-16-23
I was hoping for more character development. I understand this is meant to be a young adult series, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first 10 books. Going into 11, there’s no progress or development of the characters. The banter is exactly the same as book 1. They’re written as if they’re still in year 1 at the camp. It’s very difficult to listen to at this point, which is disappointing. The characters are probably mid-20’s by now in the series, but still talk and act like teenagers. They’re elite rangers and still telling bad guys “you’ll be sorry”.
It was a good run while it lasted
