Historia
James Henry Ferguson doesn't belong here. After a highly publicized fall from grace, James attempts to flee from the chaos in his life. He ends up in a community he had never heard of before, one that has been neglected and ignored by everyone in rural Ham, Mississippi. A place of abject poverty, the neighborhood is commonly referred to as "Around the Way." Within a place forgotten by the rest of the world, politics can be a dangerous game.

Good story, bad narrator
Revisado: 09-27-24
The narrator almost ruined this story for me. His pauses, phrasing, mispronounciations, and horrible female voices are just bad. He's also overly dramatic. I wish I had read a hard copy instead. I will avoid this narrator in the future.

A very creative look at history, what might have been, and how we got to where we are. I loved this book! Will definitely recommend and will reread myself. Definitely worth the credit!

They say Paris is always a good idea.... You know what I say? Paris would be a much better idea if I spoke the dang language. I can't even board the metro to visit the Louvre without ending up at the Moulin Rouge, and let's not even mention how I'll ever make it through a day at my new office. Fortunately my company hooks me up with my own personal translator. Ooh la la. Or should I say bloody hell? Because he's charming, witty, and British, and he brings the city to life for me.

Yeowza ... A feast for the senses!
Revisado: 04-17-18
I liked that there was both a female and male narrator. I feel like this was an intelligent will written book and I learned things along with being caught up in the exciting romance. I haven't been to Paris but the description of sights, smells, sounds and tastes that Lauren Blakely uses makes me want to go! I've already listened twice and would listen again and recommend!

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Don't judge a curmudgeon by his grumble
Revisado: 07-13-17
I bought this book as a Daily Deal and knowing it had been made into a movie but not much else. It started a little slow but in a style similar to other Swedish books I'd read ( Girl With Dragon Tattoo & 100 Year Old Man) so I figured it would build up in a logical but twisty kind of way. I was rewarded in spades! This book made me laugh, cry, be outraged, cheer and more.
The main character Ove has always seen life in just black and white per se after experiencing one hard knock after another. The color comes in unexpected ways. When tragedy strikes he will find an unlikely 'family' to support him in ways he never expected.
BUY IT! LISTEN TO IT! ENJOY IT!

Would you listen to Immortal in Death again? Why?
I'm actually re-listening to the series and now have my husband sucked into it. It balances the investigation(s) and the impending wedding and all the craziness surrounding it. Key characters are getting a little more developed and explored.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Immortal in Death?
When Eve has her worst nightmare yet and Summerset responds since Roarke is gone.
What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?
She has distinct voices for each of the characters which almost makes it more like a play and easier to follow.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed out loud during the wedding dress shopping and makeover parts. I was deeply moved by the part where Eve has the nightmare and Summerset finds her.

Revisado: 01-01-16
I'm actually on my second time around with this series. Part thriller, part mystery with a little romance thrown in. I love the great character studies that start unfolding with the first book. Set in a familiar but intriguingly futuristic New York City my imagination wants to see it on the BIG screen someday. Expertly narrated!

I listen to audio books as I train for races. This was hard not to listen to all the time! I'm sure I'll pull it out again a time or two. The narrator had a nice array of voices and the right southern twang.
