Historia
America is on the verge of a second civil war, and Ava must pull it together if she wants to survive. Violent protest, widespread destruction, and politicians who insist on letting the disassociated vent their rage will bring America to her knees, threatening to decapitate the laws, principles, and values on which the country was founded. Ava refuses to give into fear, but she simply cannot survive on her own. She must deal with her crisis of faith and learn to trust other people, or she’ll never make it through the bloodiest period of America’s history.

Not much story to speak of
Revisado: 07-06-18
95% of what’s in this book is either flat out preaching or story-like devices which the author uses to support the argument of said preaching. I’m not rating the politics here, there’s just no real story to rate.

I'm a diehard fan of the Moonlight Bay series, so anything that involves Wyvern captivates me. Loved it

Historia
In the fall of 2012, scientists at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, embarked on a series of high-energy experiments. No one knows exactly what went wrong, but in the blink of an eye, thousands of possible universes all condensed into a single reality.... Between a desert and a dried up sea lies the town of Watering Hole, the only oasis for miles and the home of our intrepid heroes Shaani and Xoota. After some rather harrowing adventures in the desert, they are followed home by a swarm of empathic earwigs.

I would like to have seen a story with broader scope rather than just the affairs of Black Mountain, but that may come. Good story nonetheless.

Can't stand Dick Hill
Revisado: 01-13-16
This book was a drag for me... My first, only, and last Reacher book. Nothing goes his way until the very end, and he goes out of his way to be a prick... A boring, drawl who-dunnit novel. Not for me

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Fascinating and heart-wrenching
Revisado: 12-31-15
I hate to write a review in response to other reviews, but In this case I can't help myself.
Yes there is a fair amount of conservative idealism and dogma, and yes the characters are rather undeveloped and one-dimensional. I'm compelled to believe that was the intention: to portray average joes, with unremarkable personalities, and throw them into a social nightmare.
Some reviewers believe the timetable for the decay of civilized structure to be rather expeditious. I personally found the semblance of order retained after the first month hard to believe. A lot of people seem to believe our sapient neurology and civilized society is more rugged than it really is.
That being said, this book IS a page-turner and had me stifling back tears on a few occasions. Read it. It's a moving, fascinating scenario in spite of its politics.

Historia
Moonlight Bay: a safe, secluded small town that is at its most picturesque in the gentle nighttimes that inspired its name. But now, somewhere in the night, children are disappearing. Christopher Snow believes that the children are still alive. He is convinced the disappearances have everything to do with the catastrophic effects of secret research conducted deep within Fort Wyvern. To keep those secrets, violent and powerful forces are willing to conceal even the most heinous crimes.

Somewhere under the freezing Atlantic, a Soviet sub commander has just made a fateful decision. The Red October is heading west. The Americans want her. The Russians want her back. The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on—and there’s only one man who can find her. God awful performance
Revisado: 09-11-15
I've listen to dozens on books, this is hands down the worst reader I've ever heard.
The reader sounded like children's story narrator: every Admiral sounded like a cross between Hook, and Hulk Hogan, Skip and Jonesy sounded way too magoo, And the English characters sounded ridiculous... The Scottish harrier pilot sounded Australian. Don't even get me started on the Russian accents.
The only reason I give this recording a second star is because it's such a great book.
