Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Useful ideas but lots of fluff
Revisado: 10-17-24
For being a book about less being more, it was disappointing how much space was taken up by stories, anecdotes and inspirational quotes. The actionable examples and idea could fit in one chapter.

Picking up where Bible expert Bart Ehrman's New York Times best seller, Misquoting Jesus, left off, Jesus, Interrupted addresses the larger issue of what the New Testament actually teaches...and it's not what most people think. This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for, a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we face when attempting to reconstruct the life and message of Jesus.

Fully meets expectations
Revisado: 10-04-24
Excellent chapter topics. Well laid out. Compelling points made throughout. Excellent narration. Good summary and conclusion as well. I liked that he went out of his way to say that he wasn’t trying to make anyone lose their faith. Strictly wants to educate and open eyes.

I started a new job a couple years ago and quickly felt my leadership skills weren’t good enough. Since then I’ve been listening to countless coaching and leadership audiobooks during my one hour commute each day. I’ve developed the habit of pausing books when I hear something awesome to bark notes into my phone for things to apply and try out at work. All I can say is I did that far more times with this book than any other thus far. And so far each of the things I’ve tried has worked in one way or another, or opened up new doors.

Historia
In this “eloquent understanding of how death is viewed through many spiritual traditions” (Publishers Weekly, starred review), Bart Ehrman recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. He discusses ancient guided tours of heaven and hell, in which a living person observes the sublime blessings of heaven for those who are saved and the horrifying torments of hell for those who are damned.

Learned A Lot
Revisado: 10-04-23
The author takes you through all the key points and perspectives in history in chronological order, from more or less Homer’s Odyssey to the invention of Purgatory (1300’s/1400’s). The first half, say, through Jesus, was great. Really enjoyed it. But the second half was really hard to not get bored by it because it starts feeling extremely repetitive. While it doesn’t actually repeat itself, there are just sooooo many ever-so-slight changes of philosophy that it’s hard to not glaze over/become numb to it. It’s not the author’s fault that more people wrote about this as time goes or and that their records survive better, but I just wish he had boiled them down to a bit more Cliffs Notes.

Historia
Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups. Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Worth the listen regardless of your leaning
Revisado: 09-08-23
I learned a lot about this world that I knew little about. It all made perfect sense to me and seems obvious when hearing it. I do wish the author had included the typical verbiage to know when someone is being quoted, like “…she said,…”. It was hard to tell sometimes with the audio book whether the narrator was reading the author’s words or someone’s quote. The author did a great job of showing that she was trying to not be bashing the trans community, but instead expressing concern for those that have mistakenly jumped into this community when they really don’t belong. However, some of this didn’t shine through until her words at the very end. I wish it had been emphasized more and better up front.

Somewhat concerning that a quick internet search seems to agree with the author’s statements that his methods are not widely accepted in the medical world, but this was nonetheless a very informative and practical self-help book. Covers some serious in depth stuff about the brain and how it’s health relates to who we are.

This was a very well done and relatable study. It was so refreshing to hear a real life story of all these issues played out for an organization and inspirational to tackle your own issues. This isn’t just applicable to business leaders. It serves as a great guide for helping us navigate all sorts of social/interpersonal issues in life.
