Finally! A Woman Heroine

And she doesn’t look like Barbie. She’s smart, capable, and tough. A real person with real issues to deal with in spite of being a recently retired agent for the CIA. Great story!

Home Run

Abby Jimenez is a new favorite author. She writes intelligent fiction. Her character are full and complex. There’s always a plot twist that you don’t see coming. Julia Whelan has been a favorite narrator for a good while but Zachary Webber is new to me. They are excellent. They walk that tightrope between overly emotive and dull flat reading. I’ve listen to Part of Your World twice. My audiobooks are like music for me. If they’re good they’re good over and over again.

Disappointing

I’m a huge Penny Reid fan. I’m also a big Joy Nash fan. Both let me down in this book. The story was ok. The sex scenes were much more graphic than other PR books. The narration was strange. Both narrators spoke with intensity and angst all the time. There was not calm or contemplative passages. And for heavens sake quit writing about snow storms in central Texas! We get one a century!

Some sloppy research

From someone who lives in Central Texas, the snowstorm is highly improbable. And because snow in the quantity portrayed in the book is a once in a century occurrence, there would be no snowplow businesses in the area. Have you been to Texas?

Cute

This was a cute story with a good narrator. The problem comes with the lack of research. I don’t know much about the security industry but I’m a Texan. There’s so much wrong about Texas that I imagine that there’s a lot wrong with that highly specialized industry. It’s very distracting from the flow of the story.

Flawed but enjoyable

It’s a good story with interesting characters. Being Christian, I resented negativity about Christianity. I understand that is the opinion of many but it felt heavy handed to me. The other flaw was the female narrator. She sounded 20 yrs old, not 50. This was enough of a problem to pull me out of the story over and over again. I finished it, enjoyed it, but probably won’t listen again as I do with many books.
