Historia
In this sweeping, deeply researched book, Paul Thomas Chamberlin boldly argues that the Cold War, long viewed as a mostly peaceful, if tense, diplomatic standoff between democracy and communism, was actually a part of a vast, deadly conflict that killed millions on battlegrounds across the postcolonial world. For half a century, as an uneasy peace hung over Europe, ferocious proxy wars raged in the Cold War’s killing fields, resulting in more than 14 million dead - victims who remain largely forgotten and all but lost to history.

Different look at a familiar history
Revisado: 11-17-18
The struggles of this century emerged from the unintended consequences of the last era, which seems to be the rhythm of history. This book details those struggles from the view of the non-great powers. The long peace also resulted in upshots - technological advancement, globalization, Asian tigers - but conflict & renewed great power competition could easily be the greater legacy. This book does a good job of exploring how this happened.

Historia
Current events have deep roots, and the key to navigating today’s roiling policies lies in the events that started it all — the 2008 economic crisis and its aftermath. Despite initial attempts to downplay the crisis as a local incident, what happened on Wall Street beginning in 2008 was, in fact, a dramatic caesura of global significance that spiraled around the world, from the financial markets of the UK and Europe to the factories and dockyards of Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Historia
When Emma Sky, an intrepid young British woman, volunteered to help rebuild Iraq after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, she had little idea what she was letting herself in for: a tour that would last over a decade, longer than that of any senior military or political official. As the only adviser to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Kirkuk and the closest confidante to US General Odierno, Sky was valued for her controversial voice and outsider's point of view.

Unique insight and remarkable story
Revisado: 08-22-16
Emma Sky helps regular folks understand the coalition in the Iraq War & some of the key Iraqi leaders and citizens working for an Iraqi future. Ultimately it is a sad story of tremendous effort, and near victory, unraveling to violence and chaos. Screen writers should craft a version for the movies, as it could help explain a tragic period in Iraq & the west to a larger audience.

Historia
The Great War of Our Time offers an unprecedented assessment of the CIA while at the forefront of our nation's war against al-Qa'ida and during the most remarkable period in the history of the agency. Called the "Bob Gates of his generation", Michael Morell is a top CIA officer who saw it all - the only person with President Bush on 9/11/01 and with President Obama on 5/1/11, when Usama Bin Laden was brought to justice.

Miss titled memoir
Revisado: 06-01-15
More about his career than al Qaeda, etc. enjoyable listen. More a defense of the CIA's more controversial episodes. Wish it focused more on the ongoing struggle than 1 chapter.
