A very Detailed and Pedantic Biography

Although I learned a lot about a rather underhanded, sexist, and racist President (sound familiar today?), the book was so dry and laden with details that I found it hard to follow at times. There were other moments I just lost interest. However, it was worth learning the reality behind Wilson.

Repetitive Drawn Out Mystery That Doesn't Deliver

Sadly disappointing, this novel does not deliver on many levels. For one, the story is one continual search that brings up the same theme over and over again. Moreover, the writing attempts to be artistic and profound but comes across as ridiculous and frankly annoying which distracts from understanding the progression of the plot. Finally, the narrator does not do a good job distinguishing between certain characters. I never like to stop a book I've committed to, but I was tempted on many occasions to do so. Trust me, this is not worth the time.

Heroic tale of an Underrated Woman

I was unaware of this great lady's sacrifice to the liberation of France during the second World War. She is truly remarkable and a victim of discrimination. The reading is a little weighed down with details in my opinion, but I am glad to have known her story.

Fantastic Historical Fiction

I was going to leave a hesitant review until listening to the Author's note at the end. What I thought was incredulous was indeed true. This is a heroic tale based on true circumstances. It is sad, but a good story.

Excellent narration brings story alive!

This is historical fiction at its best, and the narration brings each character to life in a breath taking drama. I think it is one of the best audio books I have ever enjoyed here.

Somewhat disappointing

Despite my great interest in Russian history, I found the biography disappointing as history took a back seat to endless reading of correspondence amongst "impoverished" nobility scattered across Europe after the Revolution.

An unlikely ending and story

I found the story intriguiging but the ending was quite disappointing. It left the main character unsettled and ambivalent to his role in saving the secret of the Normandy Invasion. I would title this book An Unlikely Disappointment.

Incredible Narration Brings Story to Life

I began this long classic after listening to its modern remake, Demon Copperhead, and how glad I did! The original is so much better. The narrator is fantastic and brings voice to all the different characters in a believable way. The emotional highs and lows of the story become part of the readers reality. There is no higher praise of great writing.

A Classic Brought to Life

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this classic by Wilde. I thought the narration was superb and well done. Equally entertaining are some of the reviews left by others complaining the characters are pompous and shallow. Isn't that the point? duh.. Another review thought it strange that the homoerotic nature of the men's relationships were not more evident in the story. Do people forget that homosexuality was a criminal offense at the time of the novels writing? It landed Wilde in jail ruining his career and reputation. Fortunately, the majority of reviews see the novel for the witty gothic horror masterpiece it is.
