Historia
Two years have passed since humankind faced extinction: Two cousins are leaving the protection of their underground bunker after a cataclysmic war and unrelenting disease ravaged the Earth. On the other side of North America, a young survivalist is leaving the seclusion of his cabin deep in the woods, traveling with his aging canine companion, Winston. For individual reasons, these men are traveling east, to where a small number of survivors have established colonies. But in the deep recesses of Haddonfield Maximum Security Prison, a wickedness emerges.

Great dystopian series! Highly recommend.
Revisado: 05-02-21
It's great to hear a post apocalyptic story that doesn't involve zombies, or some unbelievable storyline. It's completely believable, especially with what we've seen the last year with covid. I listened to these books separately when they came out, but then again when I saw this version came with an extra chapter. I found I missed the characters as they were introduced again, and Winston is still my favorite of all. Highly recommend.

Historia
The world ends. War doesn't: Those left alive following the unrelenting disease, and the war which reduced whole cities to radioactive rubble, were faced with the oppressive task of rebuilding society. From behind tall fences and guard towers, the colonies of Alice and Hightown were established, and a sense of normalcy prevailed. But now, a corrupt band of mercenaries, once thought to be extinguished, present their greatest threat yet to the fate of the colonies and humanity at large.

Great ending to the series.
Revisado: 01-07-20
This dystopian series was great, I'm going to miss the characters very much. There is a ton of action which propels the story onward, and it all wraps up nicely. I don't want to give anything away, so please start with the first audiobook in the series. These are among the best post-apocalyptic books out there.

Historia
When civilization collapsed, evil rose to power: In the deep recesses of solitary confinement, a wickedness emerges to defile what is left of humanity. With society coming to its knees, the opportunity is right for a terrible army to claim the world as their own and inflict upon it the same pain they received in life.

A dark dystopian story.
Revisado: 11-30-18
This breaks the mold in the traditional form of storytelling, where as the bad guy is the lead character. It was fascinating to learn more about Karl Metzger's origins. This was a great follow up to the first book in the series, but I can see this as a solo novel. They don't have to be listened to in order to understand the story.

Historia
Little has changed in Nick Grady's secretive marijuana growing business since the late '60s, which is just the way the aging hippie would like it to remain. However, Nick's complex past comes full circle, thrusting his new manager, Evan Powers, in a scramble to decipher the truth behind the chaotic lives of the people he holds dear.

Wow. Never saw the end coming.
Revisado: 06-09-18
This was a great story. It starts with Evan Powers (or just Powers) quitting his dull desk job, and taking up partnership with his old hippie friend's pot operation. The twists and action come fast, with bikers and the Russian mafia, and the ending was powerful, sad, and surprising. The story had a bit of a noir, pulp feel to it, and even had a bit of humor at times. I finished it in two days, and I really hope there's more to come from these characters in the future. This was a fast listen, but the character development was well done, and the story was fully realized.

Gripping post apocalyptic story.
Revisado: 04-28-18
What made the experience of listening to The After War the most enjoyable?
The story and narration are excellent. I could envision the desolate environment, and the characters grabbed me from the beginning.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Winston. Without a doubt. I fell in love with him, and was concerned for his safety the entire time. Karl Metzger was also a particularly frightening character.
What does James Romick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I've read the book as well as listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job of creating voices for the various characters, and setting the dystopian environment.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The story is suspenseful at times, sad at others. The post apocalyptic environment, and the roving bands of society's wastes were frightening.
Any additional comments?
The story grabbed me from the begging, but really takes off a few chapters in. The ending war scene is gripping.
