Im always slow to read this sort of genre being a black woman in America I try to limit the traumatic retellings of slavery for my own mental sake but this read however hard at times it is is worth it.The author does a great job capturing the unbreakable spirit of the night women while exploring the complexity of human relationships under the black curtain of slavery.The narration was very well done the best part in fact all the characters have authentic believable accents which made the read that more enjoyable!

A good read for young readers!

I'm usually a non fiction reader but previewing books to pass on to my children and niece.This book fits the bill easy entertaining listen and while some subject matters are adult in nature they are handled in a way that's not overly graphic which I'm thankful for.If you have young readers 13 and up this would be a good choice.As a a warning there is a story line about sexual abuse but its done in a manner that its implied with out and raunchy expletives

First of let me start of by saying I first read Sistah Souljah TCW in high school some years ago so this book has been long long awaited, although I could've never imagined how far left this book was going to go. Alot has changed in the world since the publishing of TCW and SS writing is a pushback against some of todays commonly held thoughts politics and positions.I applaud her for not being afraid to write her world as she sees fit without needing to make everybody feel comfortable. That being said I'm glad SS made our main character take an uncomfortable look at all the things she did even if she literally had to go through hell to do it..lol I applaud SS creativity and I'm glad our girl Winter still got her ending💜 Its worth the read but please keep an open mind.

I would not have called myself a fan or LAMB before reading but it's always interesting to hear biographies and the fact that it's being narrated by that perfect smokey voice I couldn't pass it up. I was really shocked to hear about all the family drama but it helps to see Ms. Carey in such a real light. Still waters run deep. I'm glad she shared her story BRAVA!

The characters are deplorable mostly but the story is gritty and relevant even today after so much time.I supposed its relevance is a testament that there really is nothing new under the sun.If your are turned off but foul language this isn't the genre for you! Listening to the audio gives it a certain something I read it in my younger years but somehow the story and its players standout more having been read..Cart Hite does an excellent job narrating!Definitely not something I'd recommend to teenaged readers but like i said read as a teen and most of all of this was way over head then ..lol
