Historia
In 1967, a Cleveland businessman had a brilliant idea: Why not start a women's football team? It was conceived as a gimmick and a publicity stunt in the vein of the Harlem Globetrotters. He recruited women to compete as a traveling football troupe; much to his surprise, he learned that women really wanted to play — and play hard. Hail Mary is the story of the unlikely rise of the National Women's Football League and the players who loved a game that society told them they shouldn't be playing.

A good story I knew nothing about

Interesting to here what has changed and what hasn't in women's sports over the decades. Worth your time even if you don't follow the sport now.

Love the writing style
Revisado: 06-09-21
Dryden has some great quotes. i love his writing style. At the end we flash forward to 2003 but virtually all of this classic is still relevant and fundamental to the game today.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Quite a story
Revisado: 05-20-21
I downloaded this more as filler since it was cheap and short and I expected it to be funny. It was, but it was a lot more than that. Trevor Noah got up to all kinds of things and was in all kinds of circumstances as Apartheid came to an end in South Africa. Hearing him narrate the tale himself adds a lot to this story as well. Well worth your time.

Worth your time if you enjoyed the mini series but
Revisado: 05-14-21
The best part of the mini series were the interspersed stories told by the real soldiers each episode. This has some of that, but it isn't quite the same in the book. That's the only downside and it's good to hear the extra details of the book as well.

Historia
Since its final episode aired in 2008, HBO's acclaimed crime drama The Wire has only become more popular and influential. The issues it tackled, from the failures of the drug war and criminal justice system to systemic bias in law enforcement and other social institutions, have become more urgent and central to the national conversation. But while there has been a great deal of critical analysis of the show and its themes, until now there has never been a definitive, behind-the-scenes take on how it came to be made.

Very Pro Pats but that's probably what you want
Revisado: 12-24-20
This book takes us from the early days of Kraft as he positions himself to acquire the team to the 2018 season's 6th championship. There were a lot of early details I didn't know or forgot. Some of the Kraft stuff in particular seems like he wrote it to talk about all his accomplishments that don't always have much to do with the team. They went easy on Hernandez but at least acknowledged each of the ugly topics. It's great to relive the glory days and hear the back story conversations that happened behind the scenes.

Historia
When Conor Knighton set off to explore America's "best idea", he worried the whole thing could end up being his worst idea. A broken engagement and a broken heart had left him longing for a change of scenery, but the plan he'd cooked up in response had gone a bit overboard in that department: Over the course of a single year, Knighton would visit every national park in the country, from Acadia to Zion.

A different take on parks
Revisado: 11-24-20
As someone who has been to many of these parks it's interesting how many places he goes and fun facts he comes up with that I knew nothing about. It never occurred to me that Great Sand Dunes was so quiet when I was there. It makes me want to go back to places I've been as well as finish my park list.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Similar to the movie but with more detail
Revisado: 10-23-20
Good narration. A dizzying array of struggles with good insight to what Strayed was thinking as she marched unprepared into the wild. It differs from the book with detail, financial hardships and the friends she made along the way. It gives the reader much more insight of how she earned the name "queen of the PCT."
