Historia
Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

Can't wait for book 6
Revisado: 07-31-24
I like this series and anticitpated this book. The story was captivating and the end was enough of a cliff-hanger to look forward to the next book. It was good, bringing back the bad guys from the series to add spice.

Story is okay, narration - not so much
Revisado: 07-31-24
I liked the story, but the narrator doesn't add anything to the story. It was free so I wasn't out a credit. Thank goodness.

I have enjoyed every book in the series so far. I listen to the clues and try to guess who did it in the end. So far, no luck! I can’t wait to start reading the next one in the series.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Love the sound additions in Audible’s version.
Revisado: 06-24-21
I had a little trouble getting hooked into the story and the musical tones didn’t work until the story finally hooked me. I don’t want to spoil the story so
I will stop there. I have listened to all of Andy Weir’s books and this ranks just under The Martian.

Historia
Scientology, created in 1954 by a prolific sci-fi writer named L. Ron Hubbard, claims to be the world's fastest-growing religion, with millions of members around the world and huge financial holdings. Its celebrity believers keep its profile high, and its teams of "volunteer ministers" offer aid at disaster sites such as Haiti and the World Trade Center. But Scientology is also a notably closed faith, harassing journalists and others through litigation and intimidation, even infiltrating the highest levels of government to further its goals.

Extremely Disappointed on this "Unbiased" Book
Revisado: 04-25-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I think someone who is pro-Scientology would like this book. It was tauted as being an unbiased report on Scientology, but this was no so.
What was most disappointing about Janet Reitman’s story?
First, it was narrated by a man, but written by a woman. The views were feminine and the male voice was just off.
Any additional comments?
I tried to listen to this book a number of times, but couldn't get into it very far and was unhappy with the story line. It sounded like the author was agreeing with the views of Scientology.

Wil Wheaton - Great Narrator
Revisado: 12-09-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I like Wil Wheaton's narrator style, but the story didn't hold my attention. I listened to about half, then wandered to another book. I forced myself to finish this book. The idea is intriguing, but the story is too long.
Was Peter & Max worth the listening time?
No, I don't think it was. The start was interesting and the end was great, but the middle was long and tedious.

Disappointing Sequel
Revisado: 12-09-16
What did you like best about One Year After? What did you like least?
I couldn't wait to listen to this book. The first book, "One Second After" kept my interest. Somehow, the concept idea of 1 year later didn't work as well.
What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like his characters. He makes the written word come alive.
Do you think One Year After needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No follow-up please. I know all I care to know about this group of people. This group, and the rest of the world, will work to restore everything to the way it was before the event.
Any additional comments?
I prefer to read "Alas, Babylon." It is more dated, but deals with the subject better.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Interesting Concept
Revisado: 12-09-16
If you could sum up The Fold in three words, what would they be?
Thought provoking idea
What did you like best about this story?
How they dealt with the concept of the fold to destroy it.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was when they realized that every time the fold is used, a different version of them steps out.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Peter Cline has a great take on the sci-fi genre. It is fun to listen to new concepts and ideas.

Good ending to the series

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I usually listen to audiobooks while working around the house. This was a great way to listen to a good book, with an interesting narrator and get a lot of work accomplished.
Any additional comments?
The ending was fun and tied up all the lose ends well. Now I'm ready to start listening to the prequel series. A friend recommended this series, and he was right. He also suggested that I listen to this series first then the prequel. So far he hasn't been wrong.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-09-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to a friend because it starts out confusing, sort of clears up in the middle, but the ending is bad. It is so abrupt I thought I missed something and listened to the ending again just to be sure.
Any additional comments?
I agree with some of the reviews I read, after I listened to the book. The ending is terrible and 3 years is a long time to wait for a sequel. I won't return this book to redeem the credit I used because I did soldier through and listen to the whole thing, but I consider this a wasted credit. How many ways can any author sneak in Pride and Prejudice? This is another example of a sappy female and older male who can't reveal their true love for each other. Bother, another thinly veiled romantic book.
