Best Grady Hendrix yet. Their talent for metaphor combined with exquisite idiosyncratic detail just soars in this book. Despite some of the gnarly stuff that happens, it’s a true testament that some of the most tense scenes have nothing to do with the supernatural. Fantastically drawn characters populate this little universe. I just loved this book.

The big question is: Why did she always keep a copy for herself? You'll come for the incredibly bad poetry, you'll stay for the incredibly bad poetry about racism.

Well written, immersive. The author elegantly and deliberately walks you through the moments and the cascading states of mind, tangentially familiar to me from my and I’d imagine many others’ young adulthoods, that lead to all of this happening. It’s all so sadly, terrifyingly believable. Never lurid. It’s a journey that’s as compelling as it is difficult.
