What A Ride "Reformatory" Takes You On!
Revisado: 05-14-24
This book deserves to become a movie... And Im gonna need Jordan Peele and Mischa Green to make this happen just like they made Lovecraft Country happen... Reformatory is a brilliant piece of work... The story may be fiction but it feels so real... Believeable given America's history of cruel racism and Jim Crow. I'd love to see this book transition to the movie screen... Excellent!!!!

I've seen it all.... A boy who planned to be the next school shooter. A patient with OCD whose loved ones really did suffer every time he missed a ritual. A choir boy who claimed he was being molested - not by a priest - but by God Himself. A patient with PTSD who gave me nightmares. A husband and wife who accused each other of abuse, and only one of them was telling the truth.

Historia
This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to identify the signs and symptoms of test stress and tension in college students. It is neither a misrepresentation, nor is it a shock, to say that there is a mental health emergency today confronting college students. Research has shown that college students have more levels of anxiety than ever before in the country's history. The acknowledgment of the emergency is documented in reports while trying to understand the extent of the issue.

Yebo!!! What a story!
Revisado: 11-04-18
Trevor Noah is a brilliant... amazing story teller!!! His book makes you laugh out loud... takes you to the edge of your seat... makes you think... offers a history lesson... and builds your faith... I was actually in South Africa visiting the Apartheid Museum when I came across this book in the gift shop. I decided rather not to purchase the physical book but to download it on my kindle so that I could continue to travel light. I think being in South Africa while reading this book was the difference between black n white tv and high definition tv. Exploring the streets of Joburg and Soweto while reading this book made the book come alive for me... When I returned home from SA, I wanted to finish the book but returning to work and a one hour commute drive would not allow me to pick up where I left off... So I downloaded the audiobook. Trevor's narration swept me off my first and right into the middle of his world... His warm ability to tell a story makes you feel like he is right next to you...transparent.... vulnerable at baring his soul... The way he tells his story... You feel like he was someone you knew in childhood....and after years of seperation... he is catching you up on his life and all the time in between that has led up to today... And him becoming the man that he currently is. After experiencing this book... you will have to acknowledge.... God is real! And as we say in the Black church.... Nobody but Jesus!!!!!!

In a provocative exploration of the intersections of race and class, Bryant preaches the definitive conclusion that to be free, one must be economically liberated. Eh... Not what I expected
Revisado: 10-12-17
I kinda wish I had saved the money I spent on this book and invested it in my future. This book was not what I expected. After seeing the author on News One I just knrw this book would offer some concrete...how to advise on credit building, entrepreneurship, but it didnot... It was pretty much an autobiography. Maybe the idea was that people would be inspired by "his story"...some might... But I only took away one or two kernals of wisdom from this book. Now I must reclaim my time!

Historia
Fifty years ago Malcolm X told a White woman who asked what she could do for the cause, "Nothing." Dyson believes he was wrong. In Tears We Cannot Stop, he responds to that question. If we are to make real racial progress, we must face difficult truths, including being honest about how Black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted.

Not Just For White Folk
Revisado: 02-13-17
Dr. Dyson did a phenomenal job of writing and narrating this book. This is the most educational sermon on racism in America that I have ever heard... I am wondering... will White Folks seek this book out?? If not it is still a literary work that not just Black Folks but all folks can benefit from especially... If they find themselves waking up in the morning and asking themselves the question... How da heck did we get here?? This is more than just a setmon...Dr Dyson has articulantly found a way to put words his and our (Black Folk's) pain and frustration into a written context that rips of the veil that keeps America from seeing systemic racism and oppression for what it is.

Historia
Everyone wants a better life, more money, or freedom. Why is it that only some of us make this happen? No, intelligence, luck, and background have very little to do with it. Our brains are so sophisticated that they can work against us to try and protect us! If a car has two wheels going forward and two wheels going backward, you will eventually get frustrated and burn the engine. Your sub-conscious has built certain fears while your conscious has developed this drive for a better life.
