Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Disjointed. Clunky. A real trudger.
Revisado: 05-30-20
Don't waste your money. I have no idea how this book won any awards. it is absolute trash. I only finished it so I could write a review. The story is solid, but the writing and style makes it so unenjoyable, it becomes like homework to get from one chapter to the next. I'd love to see a complete rework of this concept done by someone with more talent.

Historia
On the day of his wedding, Conrad, heir to the house of Otranto, is killed under mysterious circumstances. His calculating father, Manfred, fears that his dynasty will now come to an end and determines to marry his son's bride himself, despite the fact he is already married. Gripping narrative and masterfully presented. What a wonderful way to begin the gothic genre. Enjoy!

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Historia
Step back to a time when the mysteries of the universe could seem overwhelming. Cycles of nature kept predictable time with the sun, the moon, and the stars, yet crops failed, disease struck, storms ravaged, and empires fell without warning. In the region surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, people responded to such tumult with a rich variety of religious beliefs.

Historia
At the dawn of World War I, the United States was only a rising power. Our reputation was relatively benign among Middle Easterners, who saw no imperial ambitions in our presence and were grateful for the educational and philanthropic services Americans provided. Yet by September 11, 2001, everything had changed. The United States had now become the unquestioned target of those bent on attacking the West for its perceived offenses against Islam. How and why did this transformation come about?

Don't miss this fantastic overview
Revisado: 01-27-16
Loved every minute. The lecturer takes incredibly dense material and makes it understandable and accessible to laymen while avoiding boring those with stronger backgrounds in the field of MES.I listened on my daily bus rides and before going to bed, although the lecturer's story-telling ability and his way of presenting the material often kept me from falling asleep. I only wish this course were longer than 12 hours.

Historia
Kurt Vonnegut's first novel spins the chilling tale of engineer Paul Proteus, who must find a way to live in a world dominated by a supercomputer and run completely by machines. Paul's rebellion is vintage Vonnegut – wildly funny, deadly serious, and terrifyingly close to reality.

Proto-Vonnegut
Revisado: 07-05-15
Where does Player Piano rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Vonnegut will always rank highly regardless of the medium.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The disillusioned kid who Paul meets at the Meadows...or the Shah.
Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not that I know of. Chris did well. I was able to follow along easily, and his pace and inflection was not jarring or distracting.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Humans: Please replace us.
Any additional comments?

Revisado: 03-16-15
i thoroughly enjoyed this book. incredibly informative, great context, analysis of the man and his behavior. I wanted to know why so many people idolize the man Che and why so many people hate him. this book absolutely helped me to form an educated opinion on Che.
