Historia
Stephen King says he wanted to know what happened to Danny Torrance, the boy at the heart of The Shining, after his terrible experience in the Overlook Hotel. The instantly riveting Doctor Sleep picks up the story of the now middle-aged Dan, working at a hospice in rural New Hampshire, and the very special 12-year old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.

A voice to DIE for!
Revisado: 11-25-13
Will Patton is undoubtedly my new best friend and greatest voice actor ever. I think I still have to decide whether Doctor Sleep is vintage King, i.e. better than his later books. However what is beyond argument is that Will Patton performs this book with breathtaking skill and craftsmanship.
He creates believable good characters and voices the evil ones in a manner that gives you cold shivers.
If Mr Patton were to read War and Peace in binary code, it would still be riveting.

Historia
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. The Fault in Our Stars is insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. It brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

A Must read/listen
Revisado: 02-20-13
What superlatives can I heap on this book that are new? None, I think. The material of the story," young girl dying meets love of her life she/he dies so sad the end" has the making of a tearjerker to beat all tearjerkers or a potential "keep on looking at the bright side" that would make you want to go out and kick a cat, just to even things out. Instead it is an honest look at being with death at a young age.
I listened to the audio book, enacted by Kate Rudd. She did a masterful job of capturing the youth of the characters without twisting her voice into a caricature of youngness.
This is a most worthwhile book. Read it, listen to it and above all, remember it and the characters you get to know so so intimately

How far would you be prepared to go for your child
Revisado: 02-18-13
What made the experience of listening to Defending Jacob the most enjoyable?
To listen to a book requires discipline and as an undisciplined reader, I sometimes struggle with the pace of a book. As a listener, the narrator decides what you know or don't know and how fast you learn it. The challenge for me is not to cheat!
Who was your favorite character and why?
This was more an ensemble narrative. Every character was important and liking or disliking them was irrelevant to me. As a story from the perspective of the father I suppose he should be the most likeable but he is too obtuse to be outstanding.
What does Eric Meyers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He has a clear mellifluous voice, able to create characters with subtle shifts of timbre and rate of speech. He created a believable mother and differentiated between the male characters with an authentic voice. Jacob was young and whiney enough but not so much that he irritated...as true teenagers often do.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. Yes because I wanted so desperately to know what was going to happen and no because I did not want to finish listening to a masterpiece.
