Historia
A major American intellectual makes the historical case that the reforms of the 1960s, reforms intended to make the nation more just and humane, instead left many Americans feeling alienated, despised, misled - and ready to put an adventurer in the White House. Christopher Caldwell has spent years studying the liberal uprising of the 1960s and its unforeseen consequences. Even the reforms that Americans love best have come with costs that are staggeringly high - in wealth, freedom, and social stability - and that have been spread unevenly among classes and generations.

Another Point of View
Revisado: 02-21-24
I enjoyed the book. I listened to this book knowing I would not agree with the premise that the Civil Rigjts Ammendment and the Obama presidency were not net positive for the country. I still don't agree, however as a result of listening to the book in the authors voice which was compelling, I can see how a privileged, educated person, could make the honest mistake of believing that we could leave things alone and our better Angels would magically work things out for the best, Those angels, the framers of the constitution, believed humans could be owned and wrote the document ignoring that original sin, EVERYTHING that happened after that was flawed. We as a nation have to make Ammends.

I like the passion the author read the book with. I liked the sincerity utilized to compare Lincoln's challenges then and now he wasn't always loved, but he was always true.

Historia
In this collection of essays, renowned social-justice advocate Tim Wise confronts racism in contemporary America. Seen through the lens of major flashpoints during the Obama and Trump years, Dispatches from the Race War faces the consequences of white supremacy in all its forms. This includes a discussion of the bigoted undertones of the Tea Party’s backlash, the killing of Trayvon Martin, current-day anti-immigrant hysteria, the rise of openly avowed white nationalism, the violent policing of African Americans, and more.

The story of Charlie Sifford - the first Black PGA Golfer! Born in Charlotte, NC in 1922, Charlie's golf story is amazing - victorious in every decade and tour he played on from the 1940's to 2000's, however this story goes far beyond golf. It's an American story - from overcoming the obstacles of Jim Crow America - Charlie was a demonstration of courage and perseverance; to Charlie's love of family and friends along the way. It's a story that children of all ages will surely learn from and enjoy. The original version of the Just Let Me Play book was released in 1992.

Historia
Scottie Pippen has been called one of the greatest NBA players for good reason. Simply put, without Pippen, there are no championship banners - let alone six - hanging from the United Center rafters. There’s no Last Dance documentary. There’s no “Michael Jordan” as we know him. The 1990s Chicago Bulls teams would not exist as we know them. So how did the youngest of 12 go from growing up poor in the small town of Hamburg, Arkansas, enduring two family tragedies along the way, to become a revered NBA legend?

Historia
Begin Again is one of the great books on James Baldwin and a powerful reckoning with America’s ongoing failure to confront the lies it tells itself about race. Just as in Baldwin’s “after times,” argues Eddie S. Glaude Jr., when white Americans met the civil rights movement’s call for truth and justice with blind rage and the murders of movement leaders, so in our moment were the Obama presidency and the birth of Black Lives Matter answered with the ascendance of Trump and the violent resurgence of white nationalism.
