wonderful book and the perfect narrator for it.

I was so very sad to reach the end of this book, it was the sort you hope will go one forever. I've always been a Robertson Davies fan, and had the privilege of attending a reading by him which just increased my admiration ten fold. What made this book so exceptional was the narrator who perfectly captured the brilliant dialog but also the subtly of the emotions behind the words. I cried at the end because I felt like I had lost a friend.

the combination of poetic writing and excellent narration made this a compelling listen. I do was uncomfortable at times with the subject matter, but never bored.
what I simply can't fathom is that Nabokov's native tongue was not english - this book is pure poetry at times, subtle and delicious.

GWTW has been a favourite read of mine since my teen years, but I never realized before how much of the descriptions I tend to skip over in favour of dialogue. Listening to this book has made me hear every word and added a whole new dimension to the story. I thought the narrator was brilliant and the accents added an authenticity - its made me want to study more about the civil war.

I downloaded this story for my daughter who had read the books and loved them. She kept telling I'd like them as well but I just never got around to reading them... well I started listening to this book and couldn't stop - thankfully I had a long drive to make and could pretty well do it in a day - I'm down loading the second as we speak. The narrator was wonderful, and the story fast paced, original and very engaging.

I thought this book would be better than it was, there was some great insights and startling correlations but I found it repetative and not in depth enough to really sink my teeth into.

it was difficult listening to the lists, not really suited to audio book.
