I am Linus. I approached this quite objectively and couldn’t help but fall in love. A great read that was wonderfully delivered by the narrator.

Fun Characters and an Amazing Narrator
Revisado: 02-27-25
Wow. I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. I loved the fresh take and perspective on familiar tropes. The story was fun while the themes were deep. I enjoyed the well defined magic system and world building. There was friendship, romance, treachery and betrayal, strong character development, sacrifice, internal conflict - just wow. What’s not to like? Picking up the next book in the series immediately.

Strong themes in a whimsical world
Revisado: 02-11-25
Having read Jordan Ifueko’s Raybearer Duology, the stakes of this story felt much smaller which I suppose was the point. I feel as though the theme of “small but mighty” and “strength in numbers” would have resonated better on its own rather than as a part in the Raybearer world. Personally as a lover of the Raybearer it almost felt like the “giant” efforts were antagonized for being too larger than life. I liked the perspective of the commoners, but I felt their importance came at the expense of the Raybearers and anointed ones. It was disheartening knowing how hard they fought in the duology for the good of their realm just to see everyone close to them recoil at their efforts.
Overall, the world building was whimsical and interesting, I wanted more from the romance, but the theme of the book was strong and rooted in real world problems.

Beautifully written, but it left me wanting more from the story. I think the was hoping for more magic and dragons, but overall I enjoyed the ride. The narrator did an amazing job with a range of voices for each character.

Amazing Voice Acting and Great Story
Revisado: 10-07-24
What is not to like? Ana Huang did a great job of making the characters come to life and make realistic decisions. They did not act to serve the plot, rather they responded to the story’s events in ways that were true to their character. The romance was steamy and the story was hard to put down. Don’t even get me started on the performance! So so good.

Historia
Guyanese intellectual Walter Rodney emerged as one of the leading thinkers and activists of the anticolonial revolution. In 1980, shortly after founding of the Working People's Alliance in Guyana, the 38-year-old Rodney would be assassinated. In his magnum opus, Rodney incisively argues that grasping "the great divergence" between the West and the rest can only be explained as the exploitation of the latter by the former. This meticulously researched analysis of the repercussions of European colonialism in Africa remains an indispensable study for grasping global inequality today.

Historia
“The word ‘love’ is most often defined as a noun, yet we would all love better if we used it as a verb,” writes bell hooks as she comes out fighting and on fire in All About Love. Here, at her most provocative and intensely personal, renowned scholar, cultural critic and feminist bell hooks offers a proactive new ethic for a society bereft with lovelessness--not the lack of romance, but the lack of care, compassion, and unity. People are divided, she declares, by society’s failure to provide a model for learning to love.

One Perspective on Love
Revisado: 09-09-24
This book is of the author’s perspective on what love is and how to truly experience love. It was an interesting read but I would no means take what is in this book to be law. I do think I can apply what I have learned to my relationships, but I wouldn’t really consider much of the book as advice but more of a commentary on love (or the lack of love) in our modern capitalist society.

Historia
Anwuli Okwudili prefers to be called AO. To her, these initials have always stood for Artificial Organism. AO has never really felt...natural, and that's putting it lightly. Her parents spent most of the days before she was born praying for her peaceful passing because even in-utero she was "wrong". But she lived. Then came the car accident years later that disabled her even further. Yet instead of viewing her strange body the way the world views it, as freakish, unnatural, even the work of the devil, AO embraces all that she is.
