and to a dysfunctional churchy crew that had so many things going for it. Happy to learn there will be more of these characters in coming books!👏🏼

I’ll be holding this telling close as I await the end of my own parent’s time. A beautiful book with narration that fed my soul as I contemplate these matters of the heart.

John Sanford novels read by Richard Ferrone or George Guidall are a balm for all that ails me, and this one transported me thoroughly. It’s great mind exercise keeping track of names of characters, and I just love this author’s use of dialogue. Lucas Davenport was very real in this latest one. He’s a rockstar in my book. Richard Ferrone could read me anything.

My first read by this author, though a quick search reports she’s married to a favorite- Dave Eggers. I loved the protagonist, the evocative setting and the perspective of this time of girlhood. The ending came on a bit fast, not sure if that was just me, wishing for more. Well worth a listen - excellent narration.

Thoroughly enjoyed Todd Fisher's rendition of early life with his famous but very real-sounding mom. His story is steeped with love of his big sister Carrie, and his mom, and of the bond the three of them share from the start. I found it life affirming in so many ways.Todd is a great story teller, really making childhood innocence in a time of obvious privilege so natural-all-boy-sounding-Huck Finn FUN. From Todd's perspective, Debbie kept her Mom Ship pointed True North, and their story from his vantage point was so very moving. Well done, son!

Makes me wish for a do-over. I got a lot right just instinctually, but this truly would have "elevated" my mothering game! Brilliant stuff, RIE, planning to learn more about it!

Me Springsteen's book moved me beyond words...

I hung on every single word of this well told story, and finished up with tears streaming down my cheeks.
I foolishly never delved into Bruce's songs, (never mind took the time to decipher the complex lyrics), even as he was of my time. Sure I boogied to Born to Run & Tunnel of Love, but I feel like I missed the whole party. Until now, that is.
I'm so thankful that a man like this one exists in the world. Someone willing to go deep, do the hard work required in the development of an authentic self, and in this case, share his experience, and the resulting treasure, with the world. A determined soul, driven to make sense of his imperfect past, then face with courage the painful work of sorting it out for the betterment of his tribe. I want to send this book to every young male I know, in the hopes that it might inform their concept of what it is to be masculine - to be a man.
And FYI Mr Springsteen, your 'long and noisy prayer', has, indeed, rocked my very soul.
Forever grateful for your beautifully told story. You are a national treasure!

As a woman and a lover of photography, I was drawn to subject matter.
Narration is always key for me, and Susan Lyons was a delight in delivery and voice quality, and I plan to search her out for future listens.
WW2 is of interest to me, and as a backdrop, along with decades immediately following, this story really resonated with me. At one point protagonist was same age I am now, when she chose to embark on a massive endeavor involving travel & photography, so I felt personally along for the ride - inspiring!
The life and times of Amory Clay will stay with me for a very long time.
