Historia
Stella Griffin doesn’t believe in fairy tales. Ever since her boyfriend dumped her three weeks before the prom—not ideal timing—she’s convinced every love story is a lie. She’s ready to skip the prom entirely. But she and her best friend, Nisha, have been planning for years to celebrate at Disneyland before the prom . . . an OG OC tradition. But even being all dressed up at the Happiest Place on Earth isn’t salvaging Stella’s night. Nisha has brought along her friend Reece to join them, and he and Stella do not get along.

Huge disappointment
Revisado: 12-04-24
Morgan Matson had taken over my YA needed fixes when Sarah Dessen seemingly stopped writing. While some stories have been a little far fetched and some themes repeat from book to book, this one is unreadable (unlistenable?) due to just how unrealistic everything is. Forget the fantasy plot line with Disney and castle, even before that nothing was logical and hard to like or buy in to any of these bland characters. This is a hard no from me, and I like almost anything. I couldn’t make it more than 4 hours in before giving up.

Historia
Golden boy Caplan and bookish Mina have been unlikely soulmates since third grade. Bound by growing up in single-mother households on the same cul-de-sac in Two Docks, Michigan, their friendship exists miraculously outside their high school’s social order. Mina is class valedictorian, expected by her late father’s parents to attend his Ivy alma mater; Caplan is laughing off prom-king predictions and the fear that he’s peaking too soon. When Cap’s skateboard-toting, detention-dodging best friend confesses his feelings for Mina, she is whisked into a social life she never imagined.

Jinger, along with three of her sisters, wrote a New York Times bestseller about their religious convictions. She believed this level of commitment would guarantee God's blessing, even though in private she felt constant fear that she wasn't measuring up to the high standards demanded of her.

Just read the Bible instead….
Revisado: 09-17-23
There was no plot or storyline here at all. Essentially the whole book (when I wasn’t falling asleep or zoning out) was Jinger simply bashing one cult’s interpretation of the Bible as incorrect, and praising another group’s interpretation as the truth. She seems to feel that she is using logic and rationale to prove one group is right and the other is wrong, and seems strong in her convictions that her new group is correct about something written a wicked long time ago.
She also seemed bored herself while reading her own text. There was no emotion at all. For some reason I kept listening, hoping to gain some new insight or information about Jinger, but mostly it sounds like she went from one cult to another. Definitely not worthy of a credit or the 5 something hours I spent listening.
If I hadn’t watched all the old TLC shows, and was invested because of that, I would have stopped listening 5 minutes in.
So many Bible verses quoted, I feel like I just left a high school or college English class lecture where I gained no new info…. Also, clearly not her fault- but the way she pronounces Jesus was literally nails on a chalkboard to me….. It could make a good drinking game to take a sip every time she says it with strange emphasis….

Historia
Esme and Kayla once were campers at Camp Pine Lake. Now they’re back as counselors-in-training. Esme loves the little girls in her cabin and thinks it’s funny how scared they are of everything - the woods, the bugs, the boys...even swimming in the lake. It reminds her of how she and Kayla used to be. Before... Because Esme and Kayla did something terrible when they were campers. Something they’ve kept a secret all these years.

Love camp. Don’t love this story
Revisado: 05-20-23
The best part of the book was camp nostalgia. Everything else was left flat. The characters were not developed, the ending was so abrupt that even the quality narration couldn’t save it. Even most of the camp premises weren’t accurate. (Sitting around drinking sodas? Telling / bossing the camp director around what to do as a CIT? Not seeking help from authorities when minors are in imminent danger? Accepting the position to begin with and no one quitting when everything began getting weird? Simply not realistic.

Eh.
Revisado: 06-25-20
Eh. Not much character development and too matchy happy and fitting together too perfectly to be believable. Not one of the better books I’ve listened to, but an easy listen that doesn’t require any thought or paying attention.

It started out fine.... then it just kept droaning on and on about the cartel and not adding much to character depth, and not moving forward at all. The part where the police were part of the cartel didn't come off as believable and I just lost interest and gave up.....

Historia
Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

I must be missing something
Revisado: 03-25-18
I wanted to love this book. I wanted to experience all that the other reviewers had experienced. Instead I found myself waiting for something to happen or to be deeply touched by something. The time wasted by the main characters is annoying and frustrating. The time spent listening to the book leaves me confused as to what I just spent so long listening to..... and why I spent that long listening.

painful narrator
Revisado: 12-30-13
Would you try another book from Emily Franklin and/or Ashley Litz?
Emily Franklin - sure. Ashley Litz - NO WAY
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ashley Litz?
Anyone! This narrator is painfully squeaky for a character who is supposed to be a high school senior. Ashley also pronounces words awkwardly and puts emphasis on the wrong syllable frequently. The story might be okay, but this is hard to listen to….

Revisado: 07-18-13
What disappointed you about The Castaways?
I was expecting some sort of compelling storyline, like Elin Hilderbrand's other books. I listened for hours and hours and even when the book ended, I couldn't figure out what the point of it was.... There was no real conflict or resolution, just miserable cheating characters.
What could Elin Hilderbrand have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
too much to mention in this review.
Which character – as performed by Katie Hale – was your favorite?
I don't know.... perhaps Flynn and Chloe.... children aren't offensive like the other characters in the book.
What character would you cut from The Castaways?
all of them.

Historia
The rich atmosphere of South Carolina, both Hilton Head and Charleston, is brought vividly to life by Dorothea Benton Frank, a South Carolina native who, with her exquisitely evocative prose, makes you smell the sea air, see the palmettos, and savor the sweet tea, but this time it comes with a side of antipasti.

not impressed
Revisado: 09-11-10
While a fan of Frank's other works, this book left me scratching my head. I couldn't get into the story at all and found myself continually getting distracted and waiting for the story to pick up and for there to be some action. Instead the story just ended and I feel like it never started. Big disappointment.
