Two former marines search for the killer of one’s wife. Beyond that, I’ll say no more about the plot for fear of exposing spoilers. This is a great, fast paced novella, sure to entertain you. The flashbacks in the beginning are difficult to follow in the audio format, so keep an ear tuned to the shifts back and forth on the timeline. Once the story gets moving, it moves fast.

The narration is clear and effective

This is a highly imaginative and {in my extensive experience with science fiction} a unique story. Jason Faris has wrapped several plot threads together to present scientific and philosophical ideas in a manner you’ve not seen before. These include applications of artificial intelligence, cybernetics, nano machines, quantum effects, religion, and even a little space travel. The advertizing blurb discusses only one of these threads. This is a rather long book and the reader/listener must exercise some patients through the first third of the story as the various plots and characters are developed. While section breaks and other visual clues might help a reader of the physical book sort these out, the audio listener will find the beginning of the book a bit confusing. However, have faith, the threads come together and eventually all make sense.

This is a SciFi story and we must suspend some degree of belief as we allow the writer to create his world. However, in my humble opinion, Mr. Faris took this a bit too far and lapsed from the realm of science fiction to science fantasy. Additionally, several unnecessarily wordy sections present distractions. Some of these are in the middle of high energy action scenes, and thus, really break up the mood for the reader.

The book reader/narrator, Judy Rounda, began the story with an energy all her own. I was very pleased with her use of voice inflections and effects as she helped the listener through the disjointed beginning of the book. However, she lost this zeal as the book progressed and did little more than simply read the story toward the ending.

Bottom line: a rewarding reading experience, but you must put forth some of your own effort to follow the {audio} storyline.

Great story, deserved better performance

This is the first book by the duo of Jane Henry and Maisy Archer that I have read. While part of a series, the book is a stand-alone read. Tessa and Tony’s friendship evolves into romance as their lives entwine and their relationship takes an unusual path into D/s. This path is tantalizing (if not a bit too slow) but yields steamy spanking experiences. The book includes several discussions of the D/s lifestyle and how this is not S/M or abuse.

As to the narration… At first I was excited to experience the duo male/female narrators. I hoped that this would add a dimension to the audio reading adventure. However, it fell flat. Ali Peterson should have done it by herself. Jeffrey’s contribution can only be described as painful.

The story is great and, overall, it is an enjoyable audio experience.

Cass’s Roasted Rump

Like the perfect BBQ sauce drizzled over chicken wings, this story is a mixture of spicy spankings and sweet romance – stirring sex and cheeky humor – hmm. There is a point to the food metaphors; Cass is a chef and writes a blog about recopies and cooking techniques. Her bog posts are salted through the story and make it a rather good cookbook. Through a comical sequence of chance encounters, she meets Killian. It’s not much of spoiler to say she finally gets the spanking of her fantasies, but I’ll say no more.

Susannah Shannon’s story moves quickly and Ava Zilver’s narration is perfect. The audio adaptation is superb. However, you might want a notepad handy to jot down the cooking ideas. While the story might seem to move too fast, it isconsistent with its vacation romance setting.

Obedient Captive

His Outlaw Daddy is a dark western romance pits spoiled brat young woman against a hardened stern outlaw. Alda is kidnapped by Cole. While he holds her for ransom, he demands her strict obedience so that he can keep her safe from the other outlaws. While he demands that she call him “Daddy”, this is the only age-play element to the story. However, the ransom plan breaks down. As it twists and turns, it becomes clear that there is more involved in Jane Henry’s plot than the outlaw’s simple nefarious extortion.

I listened to the book while driving, and Ken Solin’s narration was excellent. His voice inflection changes for the various characters were always clear and understandable.

Amidst spankings, sex, and shootouts, this was a captivating read that kept me wide awake on my travels.

Non-stop action

This is a thrill ride with science fiction, military, medical… and of course erotic spanking romance. Dr. Lara Simmons encounters many challenges as she tries to heal the war wounds on Jesel. Not the least of which is Blade. She learns quickly, exactly what is meant by his moniker, the hand of vengeance.

I’ve read and listened to several of Renee Rose’s books and she never fails to exceed my expectations. This is also my third experience listening to Sierra Kline read. She is fast becoming my favorite reader.

Certainly one of the best combinations of reader performance and engaging story.

What does Jack Stern bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The reader's dominate voice brings the Dom Doctor's charter to life.

This was my first experience with medical play stories, and not being female – perhaps some of the ‘tension’ passed me by. However, this is every bit as good of a story as suggested by the reviewers of the print version. Thus, I won’t dwell on that. This is a very erotic twist to the Dom/sub relationship with some bondage to the stirrups {{wink}} and I don’t mean to imply there are any cowboys in the story.

With the combination of the fast moving – highly visual – story and the very engaging reader (Jack Sterns), this audio book is a pinnacle example of this new means of presenting books/stories. It is very likely that the audio book is better than printed version.

This is also the first story I’ve heard read by Jack Sterns. His performance provided a convincing voice to the dominant Dr. Drake, as well as that of Chloe as she learned to be his sub.

If there is a negative to this story, it is that it ends too quickly. However, its fast pace contributes so much to the heat of the erotic story. So, I can’t subtract anything for this. I wish Darren and Chloe the best, and I hope to hear more of their adventures.

Doorway to a new lifestyle

Wow – I will never miss another book club meeting. This story is foremost a romance, but the characters are deeply into the D/d lifestyle. For people who are new to the genre or are curious about the lifestyle, this is a great place to start. The book’s beginning is a very clever device to introduce the reader to characters and inclusion of spanking as part of a loving relationship. Entwined in the story are many hot sex and punishment scenes.

Sierra Kline provides another excellent performance as she brings to the characters to life. No one provides a better erotic performance than she does.

I subtracted a star for the rather direct and slow moving plot. After the captivating beginning, the story followed a rather tried and true plotline. Yes, it is rather ridiculous of me to suggest that you would buy this story for the plot. However, my personal preference is for a bit more action/adventure.

I like BDSM stories, but I just couldn’t get into this one. It was just sitting back watching a newsreel, there was nothing to suck me into the characters. Other’s found the book enjoyable, so maybe it’s just me.

Renee Rose never fails to entwine her interesting characters and in this story she merges the fantasy elements of shape-shifters with the business world – and of course, there are the hot sexy spankings. This plot has several twists as the Alpha Wolf brings the human woman into both his business and personal lives. I had read Ms Rose’ promotional short story with these characters in ‘The Alpha’s Punishment’ and I jumped at the chance to enjoy the full story of how Ashley and Ben created their unusual relationship.

I found Sierra Kline’s performance to be wonderful addition to Ms Rose’s words. Her soft narrator voice adds to the building erotic tension, however, her variations for the character voices are a bit strained. What is most noteworthy is the relaxed, stimulating way she adds to the sexual tension for the erotic scenes – a great performance.
