Historia
Carl Zale, a solitary deep-space miner, lives on the edge of civilization, combing distant systems for metals that others dare not seek. But his routine is shattered when he intercepts a pulse from a long-dead star, encoded in primal sequences and geometric patterns. Driven by curiosity, Carl sets out on a 14-year journey to investigate. What he discovers is far more than he could have imagined: an ancient ring encircling the star, built by beings who fused their essence into the very fabric of the cosmos.

Historia
In Iain Reid’s second haunting, philosophical puzzle of a novel, set in the near future, Junior and Henrietta live a comfortable, solitary life on their farm, far from the city lights, but in close quarters with each other. One day, a stranger from the city arrives with alarming news: Junior has been randomly selected to travel far away from the farm...very far away. The most unusual part? Arrangements have already been made so that when he leaves, Henrietta won't have a chance to miss him, because she won't be left alone - not even for a moment.

I wasn't sure about this book until almost the very end. Reviewing the story in my head, it was incredibly entertaining. I really enjoyed his writing style. I'm looking forward to exploring his other works.

Historia
In the war-torn London of 1939, fourteen-year-old Hazel and five-year-old Flora are evacuated to a rural village to escape the horrors of the Second World War. Living with the kind Bridie Aberdeen and her teenage son, Harry, in a charming stone cottage along the River Thames, Hazel fills their days with walks and games to distract her young sister, including one that she creates for her sister and her sister alone—a fairy tale about a magical land, a secret place they can escape to that is all their own.

Absolutely beautiful

This was a journey that I thought would be different. More light hearted, regardless of the subject. But I am so glad this was fabulously heartfelt and often heart-rending. I've found a new author to enjoy. Even the authors note made me tear up. Good job!

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.
