Historia
This is not how soccer-star Zack Martin thought his summer would go. When the captain's prank means trouble for the whole squad, Zack’s left with no choice but to take one for the team and cover for him. Now he’s trading parties and beach days for community service at a seaside conservation center—fair enough. But thanks to his new reputation, the cute intern, Chip, won’t even give him a shot. Still, Zack finds himself falling for Chip between dolphin encounters and shark costume disasters, which means he suddenly has way more on the line than he ever expected.

He could have done better
Revisado: 08-23-23
Spoilers ahead...
Why are so many people mad to the point of breaking friendships over someone taking the blame for a prank that did not affect anyone but the main character. I'd understand if he was suspended from the team or was forced to break commitments to do punishments but there was no real repercussions except the community service, so why did people care THAT much?!? Covering for a jerk stinks but Zack seems like he would have covered for his other friends too. The love interest was also problematic. Chip was so self centered and manipulative that I kept routing for Zack to realize he could have done better. Secretly hoping that a side character would turn out to be the real love interest by half way through the book. This seems like a toxic relationship and shouldn't be celebrated. This boy made it seemed that what was important to him was the only important thing and what Zack was working for with soccer (and for his team) was trivial in comparison. Just because he's passionate about the environment doesn't mean that he should think his priorities are more important; and the use of emotional blackmail against the main character more than once was upsetting.
Normally wouldn't rant, but this book is aimed at young adults, and they need to know that this type of relationship is not healthy. I gave this 2 stars since the other relationships in the book were done well.

Absolutely love this series, each book gets better and better. The audio version is amazing, the narrator brings the story to life like few others in her field. These books have a way of leaving me sad or depressed when I finish one and know I have to wait to hear the next. Love that they are available for free on her website but it's hard to read them when the audio version is spectacular.

Historia
When the Colonial Marines set out after their deadliest prey, the Xenomorphs, it's what Corporal Hicks calls a bug hunt - kill or be killed. Here are fifteen all-new stories of such "close encounters", written by many of today's most extraordinary authors. Set during the events of all four Alien films, sending the Marines to alien worlds, to derelict space settlements, and into the nests of the universe's most dangerous monsters, these adventures are guaranteed to send the blood racing - one way or another.

Colonial Marines
Revisado: 02-02-23
First of all, here is a list of the authors and the stories they contributed to this collection. I don't know about you but I always want to have a list handy when listening to short stories. I find a lot on new authors this way.
Chance Encounter by Paul Kupperberg
Reaper by Dan Abnett
Broken by Rachel Caine
Reclamation by Yvonne Navarro
Blowback by Christopher Golden
Exterminators by Matt Forbeck
No Good Deed by Ray Garton
Zero to Hero by Weston Ochse
Dark Mother by David Farland
Episode 22 by Larry Correia
Deep Background by Keith R. A. DeCandido
Empty Nest by Brian Keene
Darkness Falls by Heather Graham
Hugs to Die For by Mike Resnick and Marina J. Lostetter
Deep Black by Jonathan Maberry
Distressed by James A. Moore
Dangerous Prey by Scott Sigler
Spite by Tim Lebbon
For the review, this book is filled with fun stories about the Colonial Marines from the movie Aliens. Some of them are amazing while others are just OK but all in all I think this is a great addition to the lore of the Alien universe. Not every story includes the Xenomorphs but in the universe this book portrays not every encounter should. I think it builds an universe that is most likely what we will face if we ever get out there.

Historia
Surreal and splendidly unconventional, The Hearing Trumpet is an apocalyptic fairy-tale quest about an occult old ladies' home and the spry nonagenarian who ends up there. After coming into possession of a hearing trumpet, 92-year-old Marian Leatherby discovers her son's plans to send her to a nursing home. But this is no ordinary place.... Here there are strange rituals, orgiastic nuns, levitating abbesses, animalistic humans, humanistic animals, a search for the Holy Grail, and a plan to escape to Lapland and knit a tent....

Odd and Marvelous - One in a Million

I can honestly say that this is one of the oddest books I've ever read but in a very good way. The narrator was outstanding. I hope anyone who glances at this review will take a chance on this book. You will not read another one like it.

New Sci-Fi Adventure
Revisado: 03-29-20
Very imaginative universe created by the author. The characters were very likeable. Lots of twists and turns; I loved all the different beings that were created and the abilities they possessed. This is a family friendly book showing people giving up things they loved for the greater good; it's also a plain good book for adults too.

Action Adventure with Sci-Fi
Revisado: 12-19-19
It's a treasure hunt set in a catastrophic world event; a fun race around the world to find all the pieces of a machine that can help humanity during the aftermath of a terrorist nuclear attacks. The ending was amazing. Without giving anything away, I think this will appeal to action adventure as well as sci-fi fans. Great start to a new series.

It was supposed to be a simple scouting mission. In and out. No fighting. No new quests. Just me, my hippocorn, Alice, and a few hired mercenaries. We were going to tiptoe into the Spiral, get the info we needed, and leave. You know, the Spiral? That tower-defense run that protects the hobgoblin capital from invaders? Easy, right? Nobody would even know we were there. Yeah, so about that....

What a great new series!!
Revisado: 11-23-19
I was amazed with the first book and the second book just blew me away. I love the story and the characters. I enjoy the world the author created and the atmosphere of these books. I read a bunch of reviews on both these books and I cannot be happier with my decision to give this series a try.
Fans of science fiction, LitRPG, and fantasy should give this a try. Anyone who enjoys an action packed adventure with a bunch of light hearted elements should try this out too.

For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned. Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy.

LitRPG that has it all
Revisado: 11-21-19
This is a fantasy setting in a science fiction world. I loved the idea behind the story. This is a fun action packed adventure but it also makes you think about where our world is heading. Something all good science fiction does. I enjoyed the characters and the story; the author gives you just enough back ground to keep you interested in each character while building them up through out the story. I am very curious to see where this leads and already have the second book downloading as I type.
I love this narrator and I stubbled across this book as I looked for other stuff she's done that would appeal to me.

She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon.
