Historia
Continuously available in print since 1968, this novel has become embedded in progressive anti-racist culture with wide circulation of the book and hotly debated film. A literary classic, The Spook Who Sat by the Door is a strong comment on entrenched racial inequities in the United States in the late 1960s. With its focus on the “militancy” that characterized the Black Power movement of the 1960s and 1970s, this is the story of one man’s reaction to ruling-class hypocrisy.

Same story, black people will never get ahead, too many sambos in the mix thinking that integration & assimilation will lead to advancement or freedom, still waiting

Historia
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Historia
Just as I Am is my truth. It is me, plain and unvarnished, with the glitter and garland set aside. Here, I am indeed Cicely, the actress who has been blessed to grace the stage and screen for six decades. Yet I am also the church girl who once rarely spoke a word. I am the teenager who sought solace in the verses of the old hymn for which this book is named. I am a daughter and mother, a sister, and a friend. I am an observer of human nature and the dreamer of audacious dreams.

The most beautiful story
Revisado: 07-18-24
I was so delighted to hear her story told in her own words, her own way, just as she lived her life, she was so very poised, and yet very humble, the consummate lady always in every situation. beautifully told and beautifully lived.

Wow, well, at least she was honest
Revisado: 06-29-24
I appreciate her honest storytelling of her life, I did not realize she was so superficial, I knew that she was a B, but now I know, from which it derived, her mother certainly created a monster, to the demise of both of them. I appreciate her honesty, but it just confirmed what I already suspected about Dianhnn Carole. Her daughter needs to write her own book, because she absolutely paid no attention to her daughter growing up at all, why did she even have a child, oh yeah, to keep her first husband, that’s right, it was OK.

Historia
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Historia
The Civil Rights movement brought author Alice Walker and lawyer Mel Leventhal together, and in 1969 their daughter, Rebecca, was born. Some saw this unusual copper-colored girl as an outrage or an oddity; others viewed her as a symbol of harmony, a triumph of love over hate. But after her parents divorced, leaving her a lonely only child ferrying between two worlds that only seemed to grow further apart, Rebecca was no longer sure what she represented. In this book, Rebecca Leventhal Walker attempts to define herself as a soul instead of a symbol.

A True story of Love, loss & forgiveness
Revisado: 04-25-24
I really enjoyed this narration of the life of Mildred Mills and her triumphant story of her life, told with every emotion of a little child, now adult, learning life’s lessons of life, love and forgiveness, just as God would want us all to observe and practice. Wow! A beautiful life indeed, God would be so proud.
