I love LitRPG type books (for the most part). this one is definitely a winner! narration A+, as always, from Like Daniels.
The book is gamified the perfect amount. it's still understandable without pages upon pages of level up descriptions.

the only aspect I was disappointed by was the misogyny. "cooking and cleaning, that's women's work." this is a problem with a lot of books in general. I never understand in fantasy books why women have to be treated the same way we are in the real world. when I'm reading a book, I want to escape, not just hear about how women are still looked down on even in pretend worlds.

Before I say anything, Nick Podehl, excellent as always. I was actually embarrassed for him during this book. He is a very skilled narrator deserving of better material.

Now to the review. I really enjoyed the first two or three books of this series and then pushed through to finish the rest. They were fine. The last couple mostly played in background while I worked and half paid attention. This book, however, I could hardly finish it. Not only has there been very little character development over the course of 8 books, there's zero improvement to the authors writing. If I didn't know better, I would assume a 13 year old boy wrote this series.

The entire series is grossly misogynistic and many times just gross. So many dick and fart jokes. I mean, fine whatever, it was easy enough to ignore in the first couple of books, but come on. Some elevation in humor, please. Or any actual humor! It's all bro-dude frat humor, "hehe, she has boobs." No joke, chapter 37 is literally (and I mean literally) 15 minutes of Richter having diarrhea. Sorry, spoiler alert.

Just kidding, you can't spoil anything when nothing happens. Nothing ever happens. Sure, there are a lot of battles. Especially in this book, it's just one after another. But there's never any real risk. If I had to guess, there are at least ten occasions in book 8 alone where Richter "resigns himself for death" or "comes to terms with dying," only to get a second wind and be fine. I was rolling my eyes so much throughout this book I got a headache.

There was another review that I read where a person equated this series to watching someone play Skyrim. That's what I liked about it in the beginning, but just like Skyrim, once your character hits level 100 in all the skills and you're one-shoting dragons with a bow, it gets boring and predictable. "Oh, Richter has to fight a big bad threatening the Mist Village? That's cool. Let me guess, when he's resigned himself to death (again), he's going to pull out some stupidly overpowered thing he's been holding onto as a last resort. He's going to say something not really funny about the enemy's mom with the basic "if I'm going down, it's going with me," mentality, but whoa, shocker! he lives to fight another day." I get that it's expected main characters will survive, it's just really obnoxious for it to happen over and over within the same book.

This is definitely the last Chaos Seed book I'll be listening to and for real, just skip chapter 37. Actually, just skip all of it. I genuinely can't think of any part that I enjoyed, except for Nick Podehl.

I don't know how to end this review.

I really love this series. When I first found The Land on Audible, I think five of the books were available. I listened to the first one in a day and immediately purchased the following four. The RPG aspects are written so well and the character development is decent. My biggest issue is the frat boy humor and mentality. There are some great heartfelt moments... then there are fart/dick jokes. Along with that immaturity, the protagonist says some really obnoxious things about females: "Never apologize to a woman quickly, you'll just end up with a sad dick." Not an exact quote, but close. Similar statements are made in every book in the series and it always ruins my enjoyment. It feels very degrading.

I devoured this book, read it maybe in 3 days. Not only is it written so well, but Fontana does a truly amazing job. He makes the character of Joe feel 100% real, which makes the experience of entering his world and his mind all the more terrifying.

I have been a fan of David Mitchell for a long time. this book was very well written and had some very funny parts. sadly, I found myself tuning out every once and a while. my attention wasn't always captured, but I still found it a very enjoyable story.

First off, don't listen to this at work, like I did. With headphones, obviously.

The first few short stories were more enjoyable than the ones towards the end, in my opinion. The blowjob "tips" (lol) were meh. Nothing spectacular or mind blowing.

I've read/listened to this book multiple times over the years. It's one of my favorites of the series. It's not an amazing, life changing novel, but Eric Northman is in it, so I highly recommend it.

(I don't recommend continuing the series beyond book 8 or so).

The overall concept of this book was interesting. I enjoyed the narrator more than the actual storyline. It's a pretty predictable and basic YA novels, but I've read/heard worse.

First, I should say that I am a fan of YA novels. I've been reading them since I was a pre-teen. After listening to this one, however, I might have passed the age of understanding for books like this. I'm 29 and I guess the "drama" for the teenagers here is no longer relevant to my life. Everything seemed so over the top and unbelievable. I dig vampires. Vampires in treehouses... sure. why not? But I'm really over the whole "the one" aspect. Especially if there isn't a viable reason for "the one" to be the "the one." Sofia wasn't special in any way to me.

I got a headache from rolling my eyes throughout the whole thing.

I admire Lena Dunham. She's a unique and strong voice. I appreciate hearing her perspective. She may not always say the "right" thing, or say things the "right" way, but I sense that her intentions are good and that she's willing to learn and fix her verbage when her thoughts come across poorly.
