Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Awesome story.
Revisado: 06-11-22
Great accuracy surrounding the low country. This story starts out great, has a wonderful story line, and seems historically, emotionally, narratively accurate! I was rooting for Kiyah the whole time. I recommend 100%

Great for kids and adults alike

Fun story (in the line of Serafina books, fourth, I think) that takes place in Biltmore. Interesting historical references and real details about the Biltmore estate snd surrounding property. It's great for teens/tweens, but I (middle-aged woman) have thoroughly enjoyed the entire series! I can't wait for the next one.

Historia
By the 1890s, Wilmington was North Carolina’s largest city and a shining example of a mixed-race community. It was a bustling port city with a burgeoning African American middle class and a Fusionist government of Republicans and Populists that included black aldermen, police officers, and magistrates. There were successful black-owned businesses and an African American newspaper, The Record. But across the state - and the South - white supremacist Democrats were working to reverse the advances made by former slaves and their progeny.

Wonderful count of horrifying events
Revisado: 08-18-20
This book really opened my eyes to the terrifying events of Wilmington 1898, the white supremacy in the government, as well as the white supremacy in both union and confederacy! Not only that, but a lot of this is revealing of the very events that are happening today, on a national level! I'm sad for my country and the horrors we have been and presently are creating to fellow human beings! I am glad to have had the opportunity to listen to this!
