Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

Predictable but in the best ways
Revisado: 10-29-23
First.I love a book that mentions other books in the story so I’m not sure why it took me so long to read this book. It had predictable elements, but kept the reader waiting for a long time to confirm the predictions.
It was a sad book, a human book, but had an appropriate amount of joy too. Sad like the movie City of Angels- there has to be some sadness for it to feel real.

Historia
I'll Take You There centers on Felix, a film scholar who runs a Monday night movie club in what was once a vaudeville theater. One evening, while setting up a film in the projectionist booth, he's confronted by the ghost of Lois Weber, a trailblazing motion picture director from Hollywood's silent film era. Lois invites Felix to revisit - and in some cases relive - scenes from his past as they are projected onto the cinema's big screen.

Felt rushed in the last chapters
Revisado: 04-01-23
Wally Lamb is a phenomenal writer and story teller. The narrator was perfect for this role and felt authentic. I just feel like there needed to be more. The themes addressed are relevant and worthy and certainly provide an accurate portrait of what was and what is the fight toward equality for woman and more marginalized groups.
I don’t know what could have been added to lengthen the story, so maybe making it longer would have been simply for the sale of word count. It’s certainly worth a read and an enjoyable listen.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

I felt like it ended a bit too quick.
Revisado: 01-28-22
Such a great story. So many possible victims and suspects. Foley does an amazing job of setting the scene and making the reader feel as if we are with the characters, seeing and hearing what they are seeing and hearing. The character development is wonderful. My only issue was that it felt like the end was too tidy and too quick, although that might be because I wasn't ready for the story to end.

Revisado: 09-27-16
I've listened to all the books thus far. About to start #10.
There is suspense in them all.
I've held my breath at times in all of them.
This one was like a marathon almost orgasm with a huge finish. Bravo

What did you love best about The Thirteenth Tale?
what didn't I love. The story was smart, well told, tidy and kept me fully engaged. There narrators were absolutely perfect for the story - their voices ambrosia to my ears. I am looking forward to more from Ms. Setterfield and will seek out other stories narrated by Ms. Amato and Ms. Tanner.

Just so Damn fun
Revisado: 10-24-14
What made the experience of listening to Just One Damned Thing After Another the most enjoyable?
The witty writing and adorably sarcastic intelligent characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Well Max of course - a 'take no crap, Im not perfect deal with it' kinda gal who while causes all sorts of chaos also tidies that shit up.
Which character – as performed by Zara Ramm – was your favorite?
See above - Zara Ramm delivered Max in the most appropriate and wonderful way.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Id love to sit around and not do crap all day and if it wasn't for Audible I likely would sit around and not do anything but read all day. Toilets would never be cleaned, floors would be forever filthy and nothing of any value would ever get done if it weren't for audio books. Sadly I usually can't listen to anything more than a few hours in one 'sitting' (do people actually sit and listen? how the hell does one do that - I have to move around - I listen while I scrub toilets, mop floors and wander aimlessly through grocery stores trying to avoid HFCS - if Im sitting Im holding an actual book - no offense audible - please see above)
Any additional comments?
Bravo Jodi and Zara - looking forward to book 4. Nearly done with book 2 - Ill be done before my mop dries and Ill start book 3 before lunch. I do wish they were longer. I am more accustomed to 40 plus hours of Diana's Outlander books - more book for my buck but yours are certainly entertaining.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

WOW
Revisado: 08-16-11
The story is phenominal by itself but the narrator does such an amazing job of reading that I felt like I was with Jamie and Clair throughout the entire story. I was so sad when it ended and I didn't have the next book ready to go. This was such a great purchase. one of the best audiobooks Ive listened to. Currently listening to Dragonfly in Amber and it is just as wonderful. If you love well written, well researched, fantastic tales this is the story for you in print or on audio you will not be dissappointed.
