Historia
As the daughter of a drug dealer, Wavy knows not to trust people, not even her own parents. It's safer to keep her mouth shut and stay out of sight. Struggling to raise her little brother, Donal, eight-year-old Wavy is the only responsible adult around. Obsessed with the constellations, she finds peace in the starry night sky above the fields behind her house until one night her stargazing causes an accident. After witnessing his motorcycle wreck, she forms an unusual friendship with one of her father's thugs, Kellen, a tattooed ex-con with a heart of gold.

Historia
In Argus, North Dakota, a collection of people revolve around a fraught wedding. Gary Geist, a terrified young man set to inherit two farms, is desperate to marry Kismet Poe, an impulsive, lapsed Goth who can't read her future but seems to resolve his. Hugo, a gentle red-haired, home-schooled giant, is also in love with Kismet. He’s determined to steal her and is eager to be a home wrecker. Kismet's mother, Crystal, hauls sugar beets for Gary's family, and on her nightly runs, tunes into the darkness of late-night radio, sees visions of guardian angels.

Beautiful storytelling
Revisado: 12-17-24
How does Ms. Erdrich hold so much magic within her literary self? This is one of my new favorites. The characters were relatable, charming, frustrating, an effortless reflection of our human condition, written in a world equally reflective. The story and narration engaged me so much that I listened to it twice in succession, feeling a lot of gratitude for the experience!

Captivating!
Revisado: 09-01-24
Loved this book from beginning to end, and appreciated the eloquent writing. Thank you, Ms. Erdrich, for sharing insight into the historic lineage of this community and family, and their story as a loving patchwork of generosity, need, compassion, imperfection, and redemption.
