Historia
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

beautiful and thought provoking
Revisado: 07-20-20
Thoroughly believable. I especially appreciated the author's comments on her research sand struggle to make the story reverent was well as historically realistic
The narrator was good overall but there were errors of pronunciation of place names throughout the book. These were forgivable but still distracting

Historia
When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds, and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on "enemy" floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

Awesome Narrator...Depressing story
Revisado: 03-15-18
What was most disappointing about J.G. Ballard’s story?
This story is like watching a painfully slow political train wreck. It is a very dark and depressing perception of humanity, I could not finish it. Each time after listening, I felt emotionally lower than when I began. Returned the book.
Which character – as performed by Tom Hiddleston – was your favorite?
Tom Hiddleston is a masterful narrator, it was easy to follow the 3 main characters- Royal from the 2nd floor, Lang from the 25th, and Royal- the architect living in the Penthouse. Unfortunately, none of them could be considered a favorite.

Slow to get going
Revisado: 09-15-17
Talented narrator who created subtle voices for the different characters. But both the narrator and the story progressed sooooooooooo slowly it seemed to drag. I sped the narration up to 1.15x speed and that helped. Anticlimactic ending as well. Disappointed.

Any additional comments?
Started reading Nora Roberts more recent books and love them. This is an earlier career effort and does not have the depth of story or characters that I've come to expect.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Couldn't finish this book. Very dark tone, and the theme was not a unique one. Recommend listening to Hidden Figures as an alternative having the similar message and a more accountable as well as truly historical perspective.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Disappointing Narration
Revisado: 04-09-16
giving up on the audio version. The narrator doesn't differentiate well by either voice or rhythm between the 5 speakers providing the first person presentation of the story. This book has been highly recommended by family, but I can't speak to the story since I couldn't get into the audio version. I'll read it in print..
