Why?
Revisado: 02-27-09
I really love the whole Hollows series. It makes a great light listen for those stressed out times! My problem with this book was the narrator. I have NEVER had a problem with a narrator before... but this girl makes the whole book wrong somehow. I almost couldn't listen, as I was so distracted by her pronunciation of words and the voices she gave my favorite characters! Why would an audiobook company change narrators like this? I noticed that for the next book, the regular narrator is back and I am looking forward to listening to that book (if I can ever listen to the end of this one!)
My suggestion for Rachel Morgan fans... buy this book and read it yourself!

Hmmmm....
Revisado: 10-31-08
While the book is certainly fascinating, it leaves a few questions unanswered. If you like a book with nothing left to the imagination, this is not your book. If you like to be left hanging at the end about a thing or two, this is for you! I would have given this a 5 star rating, but the ending was so... hmmmm!
Other than that, I agree that the beginning is quite slow, but it is worth the wait!
The characters are fabulous, and the mystery itself will keep you guessing until the very end.
I will definitely recommend the book and read more by the author.

Historia
I have always been a soldier. I have known no other life. So begins Alexander’s extraordinary confession on the eve of his greatest crisis of leadership. By turns heroic and calculating, compassionate and utterly merciless, Alexander recounts with a warrior’s unflinching eye for detail the blood, the terror, and the tactics of his greatest battlefield victories.

Not a novel
Revisado: 06-14-05
This is not a novel. This is (maybe) a diary. Mostly, it is a war log. It gives excruciating detail on each battle Alexander fought (the formation, how many foot soldiers, how many cavalry, how the soldiers were equipped, each blow they landed). I listened to about half... waiting for the story to begin. When I realized that this was a military history tome, I stopped and moved on to something more interesting.

Narración:

Historia
The saga begins in tribal, pre-Christian Ireland during the reign of the fierce and mighty High Kings at Tara, with the tale of two lovers whose travails cleverly echo the ancient Celtic legend of Cuchulainn. From that stirring beginning, Rutherfurd takes the listener on a powerfully imagined journey through the centuries. Through the interlocking stories of a memorable cast of characters we see Ireland through the lens of its greatest city.

Fantastic
Revisado: 06-14-05
What an epic story... and so much of it is based in truth. As soon as I finished (after making many excuses to drive around more than necessary to listen a bit more) I looked up more books by this author. This book traces the history of Dublin through the lives of certain people/families and makes a very believeable and sweeping saga. I have never felt so proud of my trickle of Irish blood!

Hmmmm... nothing much I can say without giving away something about this book. I will say that it is a very good story... adventure, love, deception, betrayal, loyalty... this was my first story by this author, but definitely not my last!

Revisado: 06-14-05
Brashares does it again in the Second Summer! I was again drawn into the world of the Sisterhood, and I laughed and cried, felt lost and triumphed right along with the girls. If you haven't read the first book, I highly recommend doing so before falling into this one.

Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great; they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they're great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly.

Draws you in
Revisado: 06-14-05
From the first chapter, I was drawn into the lives of Tibby, Lena, B, and Carmen. I think this story captures the lives of girls this age so wonderfully, and doesn't make unbelieveable things happen. It is a perfectly normal story in so many ways... but it has those magical pants that add the spice to the girls' lives. I recommend this book to anyone who holds in fond memory those teenage days!

Unpleasant surprise
Revisado: 06-14-05
I had heard so much about this book, and it turned out to be so much hype. The writing is shockingly awful. The subject seems to be so incredibly juicy, but it is poorly developed, and the writing makes the whole story intensely unbelieveable. The author uses such blatantly obvious techniques, like foreshadowing.... "He knew his only hope was a miracle... he prayed for a miracle... he didn't know that he would receive a miracle in a few hours." The author drags the story on and on but such annoying techniques as "I will tell you the secret... but you have to come into the library with me..." then cutting to something else going on for 20 minutes or so before coming back and recapping what is going on in the library. I cannot express my disappointment enough.

I was skeptical...
Revisado: 04-05-05
But I am so glad that I listened to this book! What a great story... well written, good character development, great plot and action. I love fantasy, but a lot of it tends to border on the absurd, and mostly sounds pretty dumb when read aloud, but this book was fantastic. I will definitely listen to the next story when it comes out.

Interesting read
Revisado: 03-24-05
I really enjoyed the book, though it wasn't exactly what I expected! I made the mistake of downloading this story onto my player instead of another book, and boy, was I confused at first! Once I realized that it was not the book I expected, I really enjoyed the story. The characters are interesting and colorful, and I can honestly say that I didn't see the plot unfolding as it did. This book was my first by the author, and I am sure that I will soon be listening to another.
