Historia
Ansel Packer is scheduled to die in twelve hours. He knows what he’s done, and now awaits execution, the same chilling fate he forced on those girls, years ago. Intense!! Well written, well performed.
Revisado: 01-29-22
The narration is well suited to the material, which is dark and intense. There’s a “dead man walking” feel to it, in terms of looking without flinching at the brutality of violent crime, and how it effects everyone around it. Really good listen!

Should have been a more exciting listen

The story itself is good, but MLP read it in a fairly flat tone, like she was reading to someone rather than being the voice of the characters. It took a lot of zing out of the otherwise good storyline.

Really important listen. PH and company deliver a series of stories that bring the plight of the families left behind after violent death into sharp focus. I don’t know if there is such a thing as closure, but surely these people deserve some answers. Very well done, with great sensitivity. Instead of glorifying the men who commit these crimes, the focus here is on the families, and the lives lost.

Historia
Every object has a ghost. There is a small yellow backpack - half unzipped, mouth yawning to the pavement, contents strewn around it (a banana, an exercise book, a pair of scissors) - abandoned on a suburban footpath. Ten feet away, the rubber stamp of tyres, resisting clamped brakes, mount the curb and cut across the path. The tracks come to an end at a crippled stop sign. The street, a tree-lined suburban road dappled in late-afternoon sunlight, is calm. But anyone walking past can feel the ghosts: the prickle on the back of their necks that tells them something happened here.

Historia
Working as a dedicated forensic psychiatrist for many years, Emma is not shocked so easily. Then she is assigned to work with Connie, a wife and mother accused of a despicable crime. Connie is suffering from dissociative amnesia - or at least seems to be. Now it is up to Emma to decide whether Connie can stand trial for her sins. But there is something about Connie that inexorably pulls Emma into her orbit. Too Close is a masterfully written riveting listen about the powerful - yet dangerous - closeness between women.

heart wrenching, engrossing story
Revisado: 02-12-20
This story is relevant now more than ever. Following one woman's path into madness, it captured my attention, and even though there was never any question as to who did it, I kept hoping there would be a different outcome because I came to have sympathy for the main character. I loved her therapist, who was an excellent clinician but also portrayed as a human being. Her growing attachment to her client, who most view as a villain, is something that happens from time to time in the helping professions. Emotionally insightful, helped in no small part by the excellent narration! highly recommend!

I've seen it all.... A boy who planned to be the next school shooter. A patient with OCD whose loved ones really did suffer every time he missed a ritual. A choir boy who claimed he was being molested - not by a priest - but by God Himself. A patient with PTSD who gave me nightmares. A husband and wife who accused each other of abuse, and only one of them was telling the truth.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 08-24-19
As a practicing therapist myself, I was so put off by the behavior of the main character that I could barely continue listening. The lack of boundaries and decent judgement are hard to find entertaining. The Dr's own pathology as well as the absurdity of his over involvement in his cases does not, in my opinion, make for good fiction. I didn't finish the last story, I was so uninterested by the end.

Too much personal history, boring narration
Revisado: 08-24-19
Having watched the fantastic series, I wanted to listen to the book again, because I didn't recall much about it. NOW i remember why! Almost the entire first 3 hours are about John Douglas. No offense, but I found the level of detail to be self indulgent and not terribly interesting. The narration is slow and pedantic. I have also listened to The Killer Across the Table, narrated by the actor who portrays the character based on Douglas in the Mindhunter series. There is overlap between the two books, yet the difference in style and pace is such that I would listen to the newer book again in a heartbeat, and with this book, once I heard the narrator carry on in his pontificating voice, I just couldn't keep going. I think I would have preferred to read this one.

Historia
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

really enjoyed this listen. I sympathized with Hen, but also could appreciate the law enforcement take on her credibility, which made for great conflict. The narration was really good! Great story, it hung together well. great pacing

Revisado: 05-06-19
I am a huge Sanford fan, but I thought something was missing from this story. I liked it, but perhaps I missed his interactions with his family. There was very little of Weather, and even less of Letty. there were a couple of key moments that got swept under the rug, instead of giving the listener a view into his personal relationships. The bad guys just weren't that interesting.

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Boring narration. Boring production.
Revisado: 03-20-19
This could be a very compelling production- great story. Narrative style was like having someone who wasn’t really interested in the story you the newspaper. There was no emotional variety in the narrator’s voice. Second audible original that has been really poorly written and produced.
