Historia
Young Wang has received plenty of wisdom from his beloved uncle: don’t take life too seriously, get out on the road when you can, and everyone gets just seven great loves in their life—so don’t blow it. This last one sticks with Young as he is an obsessive cataloger of his life: movies watched, favorite albums . . . all filtered through Chinese numerology and superstition. He finds meaning in almost everything, for which his two best friends endlessly tease him. But then, at the end of 1995, when Young is at New York University, he meets Erena.

Eunice Wong's narration is quite sublime
Revisado: 06-27-24
This was clearly written to be an audio book. Eunice Wong effortlessly incorporates the Chinese portions of the text as she perfectly voices and portrays the extensive range of characters, of both sexes and all ages. A delight!

Historia
The theory that Shakespeare may not have written the works that bear his name is the most horrible, unspeakable subject in the history of English literature. Scholars admit that the Bard’s biography is a “black hole,” yet to publicly question the identity of the god of English literature is unacceptable, even (some say) “immoral.” In Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies, journalist and literary critic Elizabeth Winkler sets out to probe the origins of this literary taboo.

A brilliant and intriguing study
Revisado: 02-25-24
Winkler's research, approaching Shskespearians of all stripes, from eminent scholars to theater directors and actors, is deep and unbiased. Eunice Wong's clear and balanced narration brings the whole book across as, literally, a historical whodunnit. Wonderful!

Revisado: 01-03-24
Anabelle Tudor's performance of this beautiful book is quite flawless; every character of every class and both sexes is vividly portrayed. The horror of life and conditions on the Western Front comes through clearly in 'Tilda's letters home, without being dwelt upon. A tour de force!

Historia
In fifteen short chapters, Chris Hedges astonishes us with his clear and cogent argument against war, not on philosophical grounds or through moral arguments, but in an irrefutable stream of personal encounters with the victims of war, from veterans and parents to gravely wounded American serviceman who served in the Iraq War, to survivors of the Holocaust, to soldiers in the Falklands War, among others. Hedges reported from Sarajevo, and was in the Balkans to witness the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Listen, politicians! Listen, all of us!
Revisado: 01-09-23
Hedges writes of what he knows from first hand experience. At times appalling, at times deeply moving his writing brings to life the voices of many, from all sides, who have suffered, and are suffering, from the effects of war in all its horror. The narration by Eunice Wong is sensitive, nuanced and haunting. Not a book for entertainment, but this truly is a Must Listen.

Historia
Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Constant-Reader and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He’d have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver.

You probably need to be a Brit to FULLY appreciate this book but, even if you are not, the mixed bag of commuters who come together and whose lives are changed by their association with the inimitable Iona will rapidly find their places in your heart. The whole is wonderfully narrated by Clare Corbett, whose voices capture the essence of each character and bring them fully to life. Light and whimsical but full of acute observation, this audio book is highly to be recommended.

A novel for our time
Revisado: 10-26-22
As mankind rushes headlong toward the destruction of our planet, this is a thoughtful and thought-provoking novel for our time. Or you could just listen to it as a great sci-fi thriller. Either way, the restrained, subtle and nuanced narration by Eunice Wong is quite superb.

Historia
In the 21st century, humanity is reaching new heights of scientific understanding - and at the same time appears to be losing its mind. How can a species that developed vaccines for COVID-19 in less than a year produce so much fake news, medical quackery, and conspiracy theorizing? Pinker rejects the cynical cliché that humans are an irrational species - cavemen out of time saddled with biases, fallacies, and illusions.

Whether you know Poker or not, a great listen!
Revisado: 07-27-22
I know nothing about Poker and little about politics but I do know Eunice Wong as a superb narrator, and she did not disappoint in Final Table. The story itself is a tale for our times and Ms. Wong's taut and nuanced narration enhances the edge-of-your-seat suspense from beginning to end, with every character brought fully to life in the most sensitive and subtle way. Highly recommended.
