Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

A great true story of resilience and a realistic picture of the ravages of war caused PTSD.

This is an excellent book, it may be informative for parents and other loved ones who want a glimpse of what soldiers deal with in battle as well as the psychic monsters that follow them home and torment their thoughts and dreams ling after leaving the combat theater. A well written gripping story that was hard to put down once started. It is deginitely a book only for mature audiences though.

Historia
The fountainhead of all philosophy and religion, teaches Brother David Steindl-Rast, is our sense of amazement at being in the world. To cross the gap between doctrine and the divine, we have been given the gift of prayer. In The Grateful Heart, you will hear Brother David describe prayer not as a dogmatic ritual but as a way of opening to the blessings that await us in everyday life.

Highly recommend these lectures
Revisado: 07-15-24
Great lectures on Gratitude and Prayer methodology that will be familiar to people who engage in silent mediation and mystical forms of prayer as a good practice reminder and for those more familiar with traditional forms of petitioning prayer and canned prayers, you may get a refreshing new perspective on how gratitude is the basis for all prayer. Nice teachings on mindfulness and living in constant companionship with God in our everyday activities, in practicing continuous presence with God in our everyday activities. I would suggest if you haven’t already read it, that you read Gratefulness The Heart of Prayer which is Brother David’s fuller accounting on this topic. There were things I learned from these lectures that I do not recall reading in the other book though and everyone will benefit from reading/listening to the content of these 2 lectures and of Brother David’s book on the subject matter. I will want to all of them more than once. Brother Rast’s voice is very calming to listen to as well. Highly recommend his books

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

A great American story
Revisado: 12-15-23
Family ties, ties that bind through thick and thin, a true early 20th century American tale. Life was very hard back then and they were our ancestors who made up the very fabric of this nation at its very best. I really enjoyed listening to this classic and will plan to listen to other Steinbeck classics that I didn’t read as a kid.

Historia
Where is God when my suffering seems never-ending? Can I really find joy in this fallen world? This powerful book confronts these questions with stories of the author's near-death experience, a daughter's suicide attempt, mental illness, and numerous other gripping stories that demonstrate not only that God is present when we need him, but that through our trials we can find true intimacy with him.

Excellent for skeptics and believers alike. Especially recommend for hard scientists who need probability stats in believe
Revisado: 01-17-23
My brother is a hard scientist, and a Christian, but still skeptical about the more mystical experiences of faith. This book gives scientific statistical proof and validity to Christianity in a way that I haven’t heard before. It outlines how we can be comforted by JC’s presence in our daily lives, guiding each one of us to our individual Devine purpose of living life on earth. It also relays regular people’s experiences of encountering JC in the Heavenly realm in NDEs, healing and being sent back to tell others of what awaits each of us beyond the veil. It is well written, flows well and is confidently and encouragingly delivered . My brother ‘s birthday is in just a few days and He will be sent a copy of this for sure. It is also backed up by scriptural references throughout which will assist anyone who so desires to have a deeper level of study available as a result of reading or listening to it. I was especially struck and affirmed by the author explaining the importance of slowing down and encountering God in the midst of daily silence in prayer as well as within the acts of going about our daily activities and how we can have a simple straightforward conversation with God while going about the multiple Mundane tasks of each day. In praising God as we move through our daily activities, we can turn every activity of our day into an ongoing dialogue of prayer. And the more we do that the more Jesus will reveal Himself to us through the movement and guidance of the Holy Spirit in the simplicity of our daily lives. There is so much more to be gleaned from this little gem of a book. I will want to both listen to and read it as a catalyst for future study over and over again. I highly recommend Dying to Meet Jesus.
