Honest and Direct
Revisado: 02-26-25
Merryl is true to her experience and conveys what she's feeling at the moment. I can relate to some of her experiences, and I'm a white guy in the Army. Her skill to tell a story pulled me into what she saw in my Sister Service and I appreciate the Navy a little bit more because of it. Thanks Merryl, you rock!

Much to consider
Revisado: 01-13-23
Really enjoyed the book and what Dr. Joe Dispenza has to write. The reader read a little slower than I like to listen, so I kicked it up a knotch.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Fantastic and hilarious
Revisado: 07-01-22
Goggins direct communications style, by laying it all out, is invigorating. His descriptions of what he was trying to accomplish and the pain he was in made me laugh because of what I'd done and tried to do. His Story Time did not come across as bragging, more like 'look at the wild/stupid things I had done' and how it turned out. Your AARs are very helpful.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Fantastic insight if we're looking for solutions
Revisado: 06-09-22
If we really want to grow we have to listen to all angles. I appreciated the descriptions of the office training situations, and how it was derailed by white fragility. I had to laugh too, because I've seen it too. This book allowed me to be the observer and hear it through before I had to address my emotions or defensiveness.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Insightful and amazing
Revisado: 05-20-22
Malcolm X's autobiography opens my eyes to what he lived and his growth has helped me grow. His honest self examination and looking at what he, and really all of us, can do to fix the US culture and correct things for the Afro-Americans, native Americans, and really all ethnicities to include whites. He's inspired me.
