A revisited story
Revisado: 02-24-24
I read this book quite a while ago. it is still entertaining. the narrator was good, but it seemed like she didn't pre-read the book. Lifting her voice when she should be whispering, and matching the emotions to the scene incorrectly.

Ham-handed exposition with soap opera narration
Revisado: 04-05-21
A pound of exposition for every ounce of dialog. The dialog and its delivery was akin to a daytime soap opera.

Historia
The modern world and media can make it seem like unless your life is filled with ‘"stuff" you can never be happy. In fact, true happiness and simplicity can be found in every moment. Hygge and Minimalism and Decluttering will show you exactly how to do that. Hygge is a lifestyle that comes from Denmark and means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Minimalism is actually about a reassessment of your priorities, so you can strip away the excess stuff that doesn’t actually provide value to your life.

Terrible
Revisado: 07-08-19
Lots of prose, no real substance. It tells you what minimalism can do, but doesn't tell you how.

I respect the effort but the product is lacking
Revisado: 08-11-18
The core story concept is solid and the form is technically adhered to. Unfortunately, the protagonist is vastly overdone with only one flaw to confront, and it is only given a side-long glance throughout the book. It left me with the impression that although the entire book told me about his accomplishments, I couldn't identify or empathize with him. Making it so that I don't care enough about him to be anxious for the next part. There is no real antagonist presented or someone that challenges him in a major way. there are several minor clashes but none that challenge. Supporting characters are only fleshed out enough to reveal what they think of how great the hero is. Female characters lack anything other than mindless adoration of the hero. Writing a novel is difficult, and I respect the author's efforts, but I can't say that this left me excited or intrigued. No emotional connection.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

an amazing account of a little understood time
Revisado: 05-21-18
I was born in 1972 in Pittsburgh. a couple of our neighbors were black, but being young and from an ethnically disfavored group as well, I didn't really think about how my friends' parents came to be in Pennsylvania. all during this book, my mind went back to them and to the subtle differences that I didn't understand at the time.

Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.
