Good Book
Revisado: 05-04-25
Insightful, even though a fiction it was the first time I understood intimately how refugees and people fleeing for their lives always felt. A life of fear, no safety and constant unstable. It demonstrated both sides of this terror of a life style and those who want to help. I look up how many refugee camps in the world approximately 500 +. But that doesn’t include those still running and hiding.

Great read that takes you back in time when few or none black journalists worked for a major newspaper. Informative and personal. The struggle with some black journalists is still real in 2025

Wow this was a long audible book for me. I finally got a look into the role of a white house president from his point of view. Very interesting. Appreciated the insightfulness, the demonstration of care and concern about all aspects of his life and presidency. Great book! Truly enjoyed it.

Love, Love, Love this book
Revisado: 02-15-25
As an African American woman I forget often of the experiences of immigrants that come to this country. This book opens my eyes once again to the prejudices, racism and unfair treatment of a Nigerian family. Even though it was fiction the struggles of his father and mental breakdown of his mother seemed so real to me. Each character in the story had he/her own uniqueness and well-developed personality through the eyes of the author and main character. I was pulled into the story through every aspect of my soul. This book touched me deeply. The emotional feelings still resonates with me. I read the author bio and background and was so impressed. In every bit of fiction there is a little bit of truth!

I truly enjoyed this book. Finishing it on the eve of Trump becoming their, yes, I said their, those people president. I decided to finish reading it now because he will unfortunately be in the white house again 2025. My heart is broken, but my spirit, passion and drive for true democracy still exist. Even though being a child of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's I am depressed for what is to become of our nation in the future. Physically here on earth and will continue to use constitutional to live by and hopefully protect me, which it doesn't I am a 70-year-old black woman.
I read the book to prepare me again and understand him (Trump) how he will govern these United States. He will like he did before as a third grader. The book to me was excellent. It allowed me to understand better personally how a president function while in the white house; how decisions are made and what roles those close to the president impact and help him to make decisions. It confirmed the characteristics and behaviors I thought about Trump. I can't say it is the honest truth for all because it is a book, the author and his research team etc. opinions. In the years to come after this tragedy of his second term in the white house is in the dust of history this book will become a viable history book! Great book I would listen to it on audible a second time to make sure I didn't miss anything! God Bless, Protect these United States from the home-grown enemies within!

Soul searching, riveted, true to the core; unveiling of her inner child with herself over her life time. I was moved beyond my wildest expectations. This story will forever impact this 68 year old black woman’s life. A must read for all
Who are still trying to validate themself in a white man’s world. A human but truly a black actor’s experience. I am forever grateful for Ms. Davis courage and vulnerability to share the deep and very sensitive aspects of her life. A timely unveiling of a black woman’s life!

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-04-21
Unfortunately this book had lots of potential but failed short in so many ways. The plot was attractive initially and the characters at first seemed believable. The transition between the various time lines and characters was disjointed. I got lost and confused between the time lines, main characters experience and chapters. With a little reworking it would make a good script for a mini series.
I continued listening because of the wonderful narrator and the hope of some resolution between the sisters and their daughters.
Next time I will spend more time reading others reviews of various novels!

Family dynamics, the imprint of our fathers/mothers character leaves an important impact on us. Donald was raised to be who he is today. It's helps to have a degree or understanding of psychology to really understand this book. The future is yet to be determined on what's next for Mr. Trump. At least she made some money on the book!
I don't really know if his mother was truly verbally abused but she was minimalized.

Love It Loved It!
Revisado: 12-11-20
I spent a lot of my time in public library during junior high school. I waited there after school for my mother to pick me up and take me home. It brought back found memories the lovely librarians, all the books. I was suppose to do my home work instead I explored the books on the shelves. I enjoyed getting lost in the aisles and picking up books. Checking them out. Reading books was an ongoing activity. Before television; yes I am that old my mother read Hyde to us. Now that I am retired I have more books to listen to while doing household chores. Aw the joy of reading.
Great performance! Love the ending. Looking forward to more books from this author! Bravo!

From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Epic Story, Sad to say nothing has really changed.
Revisado: 11-25-20
Although the individual migration stories seemed long in the final chapter I felt nothing in America has changed for Black people. Yes, we have made many strides and have trailed blazed to upper, super rich and the evaporating middle class, still our skin color does not wash off. We are doctors, lawyers, politicians, civic leaders business and corporates owners. We are We have millionaires and billionaires. We are stilled treated, evaluated and treated differently( less than, not good enough) in the world; especially America. In 2020 during the Trump administration and before black men/women were/are treated unfairly in the justice system. There is No equal just or peace. We are still living on some type of a plantation and Jim Crow is alive and well. I applauded those who choose to match and as I do support Black Lives Matters. It seems most of the time in action, deed and follow through it's just us carrying the cause forward.
The beauty of the book demonstrates during the beginning of black migration from the south even as today we continue to strive, survive and make progress. Through our own persistence, perseverance, purpose and patience. Why do I continue to cry myself to sleep at night when on the news frequently young black men and women are killing each other. The police have the right to shot first and say oops afterwards. Their defense they felt "threaten by the black person!"
The suicide rate among black young men is the highest. Black couple who don't want or feel emotionally attached to their young babies kill them. The book is a great history book for young blacks who want to really know part of their history. Will they read it?
