A great Dennis Taylor / Ray Porter production!
Revisado: 01-18-25
Pleasant, humorous, interesting. Similar themes with a different twist. I like the characters, I love the positivity. I immediately listened to it a second time because I enjoyed it and wanted more!

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Mediocre but effective page-turner
Revisado: 09-23-24
The story was SO full of great potential!! But too many gaps and plot holes and inconsistent extremes. I will admit it kept me awake for a long, hard cross-country drive, but a lot of the time I was yelling at my phone about the plot holes .

Mixed reviews
Revisado: 09-23-24
I disliked it so much early on that I almost sent it back. All awful people, ugh. It was not funny, just a few chuckles here and there, shouldn’t be listed as a comedy. It was inconsistent, good and bad story, characters, writing. But it kept rolling, got better as the characters became less pathetic. Story turned out interesting in the 2nd half. Violence was unnecessary, would have been better without the extremes.

Surprising amount of violence, not the usual Dave Barry charm
Revisado: 06-22-24
Dave Barry novels are some of my favorite books ever. I love the non stop twists and turns and weaving the characters and stories together. I love how he finds humor and humanity in just about everything, and makes oddball personalities so likeable. There was some of that here… but I was shocked at the violence in this one. I’m not a social justice warrior, but this book definitely needs a trigger warning. The female character is the target of constant threats of extreme and graphic violence. I almost couldn’t remember her name because most of the time she was referred to as -itch. It was nauseating. Misogynistic. Absolutely not okay.

Whoa that was awesome!
Revisado: 02-23-24
Great fun, interesting story, fabulous narrator!!
I kept wanting the main character to be more heroic and less immature... but she recognized herself making mistakes, which helped. Imperfect people are worth writing about too. :-)
Can't wait to read the sequel! And I'm shocked that I've never heard of these books before... as a graphic designer, it is truly epic to find a story full of graphic artists. :-D

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

I just can't immerse into the old language style. It seems just silly, but not funny. I didn't like any of the characters at all. A good premise wasted.
