Colorful, eye opening, enthusiastic!

This book helps connect the dots & creates new images in history. This was my 2nd time reading it. Manchester throws dates & eras out as quickly as one can blink so that you want to study historical figures more indepth as you go, but you can't help but hold on for the ride and suddenly, you have reached the end. Then you can exhale.....

Loved it! Understanding better how terribly conflicted many slave owners may have felt and why many may have been pressed to keep them rather than force the family into financial ruin. It was heart breaking to experience the dalema a woman of the time would have felt with no options of birth control but the forced duties to her husband taking her very life from her. I am once again reminded of the vast difference between a highly educated woman of that time period and one of today. The infant mortality rate and medical knowledge of that time leaves me humbled at the graves of women and men before us and the losses they bore regularly. The authors transported me into the Jefferson family household and their beloved Montecello.

Didn't enjoy this book

Couldn't make myself listen to it. The narrator voice was annoying for me. The story was supposed to have a nastolgic feel but I just felt completely detached and uninterested. I never got the point of it even getting to chapter 12, probably because I kept falling asleep!
