Historia
Ambassador Mahit Dzmare arrives in the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire only to discover that her predecessor, the previous ambassador from their small but fiercely independent mining station, has died. But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident - or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court. Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion.

Despite the Awards this was only an ok book
Revisado: 04-12-21
This book is Empire shitck. With a lot of murderous intent... and pomposity... and interstellar bureaucratic schlock.
And only ok. Something you might read to kill time and not get swept away.
And did I say disappointing?
The ending reminded me of the Academy Awards. I don't like them.

Not Good. Bogs down in bombastic combat madness
Revisado: 03-01-21
Gung ho, killem all! The sex, Then Gung ho, killem all! Those alien$ -- they got it coming.
The style is repetitive and and, you know--- sex and killem all!
I listened to the whole book as an exercise in critical thinking only to end up less intelligent and unconvinced of the value of the sex descriptions. And hey, I like sexy stories; But did not like this.
I've got over close to 400 books in my library; and have been reading fantasy and sci-fi for 6 decades. But on this one-- I guess I'm a sissy.
Want a war in space-- read The Forever War. Like war stories? Read Achtung Panzer, Six Armies in Normandy, or A Bright Shining Lie.
Did I mention that the Gulag Archipelago and Cancer Ward is are great books?

Kenneth Macksey's highly regarded biography of Generaloberst Heinz Guderian gives clear insight into the mind and motives of the father of modern tank warfare. Panzer General shows Guderian as a man of ideas equipped with the ability to turn inspiration into reality. A master of strategy and tactics, he was the officer most responsible for creating blitzkrieg in World War II.

Interested in military history? Read this. Guderian was not hung at Nuremberg. Not sure why not... maybe his charm. Leading from the front usually gets a leader killed.

Historia
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

I and John Scalzi think this a truly Great Book!
Revisado: 05-30-20
I agree with John Scalzi that the Goblin Emperor is one of the best books I've ever read. And I concur with Mr. Scalzi and the the book he recommends in the written piece on Audible as an embodiment of category "Great Books"--- The Face of Battle by John Keegan. It is, in my opinion, the strongest great book I've read, the reason being that it is an empathetic rather than an historical chronicle of events. The book examines the condition of men in battle on the same site in three separate battles in the separate eras of weaponry and tactics. But..... I'm pretty sure I read it before Mr. Scalzi because I'm older that Mr. Scalzi and met John Keegan at an oyster bar in Charleston, SC in 1978, well before each of us had any grey hair. Since that time, I have read all of John Keegan's military history books, including the amazing The Second World War (at tome) which was not available except on tape for a long time. I have a Books on Tape edition in a drawer somewhere. And I'm pretty sure that somehow it was placed into public domain and available somewhere on the internet for free download. I have the download. I guess that makes me pretty old, but that's OK because being old and knowing it is an acceptable condition... Know what I mean........? Oh yeah,... I was talking about great books. All of Keegan's books are both authoritative and splendid except the the War on Iraq except The Iraq War which did not address the entire bloody mess and genocide of on the war on iraq. For that read, The Fire This Time: U.S. War Crimes in the Gulf by Ramsey Clark. Missed opportunity there John!

This AI is the one Elon Musk is worried about...
Revisado: 09-18-17
Turn you / him / her into a KILLER ROBOT! (What does Mr. Musk know he can't or won't say?) It's Ok, at least I can take it. Except there is another killer robot that faithfully makes appearances. OED pay attention! The new word here is "Dragon" that breathe fire from the ignition chamber of a LH3LOX lift engines. Examples of Dragons are Kim Jong-Un, Bezos, Musk, Goddard, Bigelow, and Israël. Space, Orbit, Off World, MARS! Sanity not required. Dragons want to go to MAR$. Excellent imagery to understand a world in perpetual warfare and the only escape is escape velocity. Hey, Elon, Jeff, Stephane -- let's plant 2 trillion trees. Screw orbit. Call me up and I'll tell you why. You don't need my number, you are a Dragon. You can send a car to my door?

Rosemary Harper doesn't expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and, most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman, she's never met anyone remotely like the ship's diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot; chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks, who keep the ship running; and Ashby, their noble captain.
