Mercy of the Gods!
Revisado: 09-20-22
Another great episode. I appreciated that so many of the plot lines from previous novels were tied-up neatly as new problems are introduced. Even the Denise ratio was better this time.
Bevin does a fantastic job of reminding us just how unwelcome our own PCs must be in the towns, villages and forests they visit.

Great Finale!
Revisado: 12-26-21
Completely satisfied with this final volume. Don’t understand the complaints posted by others. I found this to be a series that was notable for never declining or including a stinker. Particularly pleased with the characters reflecting on old shipmates from previous books. To me, this was a sign that the authors appreciate and respect the fans of their work. Thank you!

This thrilling biography of Stalin and his entourage during the terrifying decades of his supreme power transforms our understanding of Stalin as Soviet dictator, Marxist leader and Russian tsar. Based on groundbreaking research, Simon Sebag Montefiore reveals in captivating detail the fear and betrayal, privilege and debauchery, family life and murderous cruelty of this secret world. Written with extraordinary narrative verve, this magnificent feat of scholarly research has become a classic of modern history writing.

So Good!
Revisado: 12-09-20
I read this about 10 years ago and adored it. Was so pleased to see the unabridged audio version come out.
Both the author and the narrator bring the Stalin period to life. The approach to research and the narrative remind me of Doris Kearns Goodwin, but with all the zaniness of the Stalinist courtiers.
Remains a favourite and I know I will listen to this again down the road.

Great Book, Great Narrator
Revisado: 05-26-19
First in a series of period thrillers. I read them years ago and loved the sense of authenticity. Downing presents a story set in Third Reich Berlin in the final months before the war. His protagonist, John Russell, walks among a diverse population that includes Nazis, fellow travelers, opportunists, skeptics and straight-up victims of the regime. Ultimately, this story is less about the MacGuffin and more about the people of that city, all trying to hold their lives together in a world about to fall apart.
Last time I read the books but decided to try the audio versions this time and was very pleased. Great narration.

In the wake of their recent loss, the Caverns and Creatures gang are left hanging. Do their choices amount to more than waiting around to die of thirst and leaping to a quicker death? Probably, or else this would have been a much shorter story.

Improvement Over Books 4 & 5
Revisado: 01-29-19
Bevan back in stride here. Lots of laugh out loud moments, and scenes in Glittersprinkles Grove among the funniest in the entire series. Nice to see some characters that are often humiliated get their time in the sun, and even Randy and Denise were not as prominent or annoying as previous couple books.
Jonathan Sleep brings it to life as usual , and how he kept a straight face while delivering those lines by the earnest young pixie escapes me. So funny!

Historia
The First World War is one of history’s greatest tragedies. In this remarkable and intimate account, author G. J. Meyer draws on exhaustive research to bring to life the story of how the Great War reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of the world we live in today. World War I is unique in the number of questions about it that remain unsettled. After more than 90 years, scholars remain divided on these questions, and it seems likely that they always will.

Delivers the Goods in Every Way

I just finished my second listening of “A World Undone” and enjoyed it just as much as the first. The writing is thorough without overwhelming and manages to shift between poignancy, tragedy, and even humor in a very natural way.
Narration is outstanding too.
