Historia
They each had their reasons for being a soldier. They each had their illusions. Goodrich came from Harvard. Snake got the tattoo - Death Before Dishonor - before he got the uniform. And Hodges was haunted by the ghosts of family heroes. They were three young men from different worlds plunged into a white-hot, murderous realm of jungle warfare as it was fought by one Marine platoon in the An Hoa Basin, 1969. They had no way of knowing what awaited them. Nothing could have prepared them for the madness to come. And in the heat and horror of battle they took on new identities, took on each other, and were each reborn in fields of fire....

Amazing book
Revisado: 01-20-23
I really enjoyed how this book took all the emotional aspects & created a visual of Vietnam.
I will never know what it was like over there, even when speaking with my relatives who fought. I hope books like this will help future generations get a feeling for what people sacrificed to keep them free.
Finally, the complete disconnect from reality that the hippies and non non-combatant citizens…

Historia
Paul Bäumer is just 19 years old when he and his classmates enlist. They are Germany’s Iron Youth who enter the war with high ideals and leave it disillusioned or dead. As Paul struggles with the realities of the man he has become, and the world to which he must return, he is led like a ghost of his former self into the war’s final hours. All Quiet is one of the greatest war novels of all time, an eloquent expression of the futility, hopelessness and irreparable losses of war.

Great book but some parts skip
Revisado: 12-09-21
There’s an annoying thing in this book. A few (4-5) times it starts to skip like a scratched cd. It completely ruins a couple minutes each time. Other than that it’s a great book, fictionally.

Historia
The light of the Christian faith is flickering out all over the West. American churches are beset by a rapidly secularizing culture, the departure of young people, and watered-down pseudo-spirituality. Political solutions have failed, as the self-destruction of the Republican Party indicates, and the future of religious freedom has never been in greater doubt. The center is not holding. The West, cut off from its Christian roots, is falling into a new Dark Age.

Not about the Rule of St. Benedict
Revisado: 05-17-17
Has The Benedict Option turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I'll still listen to books like this, but I'll be more careful in what I purchase. I might have to start going to the library for books like this, or talking to church members.
Would you be willing to try another one of Adam Verner’s performances?
I can't fault the reader.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Benedict Option?
entire chapters
Any additional comments?
I wrote a MBA paper about the Rule of St. Benedict in business, and had wanted to read/listen to some more books about it. This book is nothing like what I used for reference material....this is an opinion piece that strays from the meaning of the rules completely.

Would have been better as a motivational poster
Revisado: 05-12-17
I tried to listen to as much as this book as I could stomach, but there was just no substance. It was the same exact statement reworded over and over again a million different ways. On top of that the author likes to laugh at her quirks, at odd times.
As I'm trying to listen to it right now, the book is telling me, again, how the rule will help me, without specifying anything else about this rule. There are "volumes and volumes of research proving that it works," which aren't cited.
I would suggest skipping over this book, because the entire book is the author counting down from 5, over and over and over with fluff in between

Good points, shallow examples
Revisado: 03-03-17
The book has some great points/ideas, but the points sometimes were lost in the author bragging about the superiority of the method.
Also, mentioning success stories is great, if those success stories weren't already in the top .01% of their fields to begin with. If, for instance, the author had given a story of someone who had lost it all and turned around their life, then it's more relatable.
I wouldn't be splitting hairs like this, if the author didn't mention how great & perfect the system is, every other paragraph.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

He's just too weak sounding
Revisado: 03-08-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this, even though I was skeptical at first. I bought it to listen on car trips with my fiancé, after she read the book in her book club.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Probably it would be Go, because while she seems clueless, she's not a sociopath like most of the others.
Which scene was your favorite?
I'm having a hard time coming up with a favorite scene, there were so many moments where I just thought, "did they really just do that?"
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Appearances, and the media, are deceiving
Any additional comments?
Possible spoilers warning: The book was an example of showing how some in the media with no journalistic integrity can sway public opinion based on flimsy evidence. Even though the husband was a slimeball who was doing extramarital things, he wasn't tried in court nor was he proven to be a murderer.

The story of a happy second marriage?
Revisado: 07-14-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I probably wouldn't, mainly because I listened to this with my girlfriend of five years while we were driving to her parents house, to attend a friends wedding. I got this with the impression of hearing about a happy marriage, and all we heard was about her bad first marriage and her parents divorce. It takes the entire book to get to the point that she is wooed by a doctor looking for younger wife. This doesn't lead to marriage until after they had lived together for a while.
Could you see This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
This could not be made into a movie or a TV series, it's to dysfunctional.
Any additional comments?
The story had a good enough flow to it, and was easy to listen to, but I wasn't able to take anything from it other than it was a story of second marriages.

Historia
Women are dying. Women who have nothing in common except the fact that they once worked for the military. And they knew Jack Reacher. How and why these women are in danger completely baffles the elite FBI team working the case. There is no trace evidence. There are no links between victims. Their bodies have no fatal wounds. And the killer entered their homes and exited again like a summer breeze.

My Reacher would have been way more manly
Revisado: 04-20-12
Would you listen to Running Blind again? Why?
probably not. I've read all of the books in the series and decided to try one out in the audio format. I imagined Jack Reacher being a more rugged man's man like myself, but Hill portrayed him as a sort of wuss. I'm not sure if this is how the book made him out as well, but I found that he was just not as rough as I had always pictured. kind of ruined my imagination.
What aspect of Dick Hill’s performance would you have changed?
He should have made Reacher have a deeper, scruffier voice. Reacher is 6'4" or so, and he's built like a linebacker.
