I'm not sure how I stumbled across this title, but it was a free listen with my membership, and I LOVED it! Great story, and superb narration. I plan to go searching for other works by this author after I'm done with this review.

Wonderful way to browse through history.

Excellent performances. This series is a blast. I am a huge fan of the Dead Queens and this would be a great way to introduce people to some of the most fascinating aspects of their lives.

Music to my ears

As a long time listener of the original recordings by Nigel Planner and Stephen Briggs, it’s taken me a few listens to fall in love with the reworked versions of Pratchett’s catalogue, but fall in love I have (at least with all of the female leads). My original version of ‘Soul Music’ was a bit degraded so I was particularly excited for this one to come out, and I have enjoyed getting to know one of my favorite character’s, Susan, even better with this marvelous performance.

I happened upon this book when browsing the free selections for the month and it was a winner. Great story, short enough to have to over invest, and of course a brilliant narrator to tie up the bow.

A new voice for the witches

Infuriating

This review is mainly a reflection of how I feel about a brilliant story by a brilliant writer being butchered by someone for why???? The performance of the actors is stellar, which makes it even more reprehensible that someone gave them this shitty script. This is not an abridged version, this is a rewrite. It's akin to telling a history class to watch the WB show Reign to gain an understand of Mary Queen of Scots.

Delightful

I love the world this writer has created where werewolves and vampires are a part of everyday society, and espionage is a skill learned early on in floating schools finishing fine young ladies. You may need to have a bit of back-story to fully enjoy this book, or you may decide that immersing yourself in the middle is your cup of tea for the day. Either way the story can stand on it's own, but for those of us in love with the finishing school series, it's so nice to find out whats keeping are favorite's from Geraldine's busy after finishing.

Book Reviews

I get endless hours of delight from this series of audiobooks. Gail Carriger is an author that I can’t get enough of, and since stumbling across ‘Souless’ (the first book jumping with you into a universe that connects 3 series). I have devoured everything that touches the world of the Parasol Protectorate, including the finishing school series, Prudence and her crew, and a few short stories in between that connect some of the dots concerning Alessandro, hedgehogs, inventors and beta’s, then finally delving into a few of the beloved side characters who have scored their own novellas.

‘Prudence’ is the first book in a series of four that picks up the story of Rue, a Metanatural, who we first meet as a toddler in the previous series dedicated to her mother, Alexia Tarabotti, the character who launched the universe of the Parasol Protectorate, which takes place in the world of Steampunk fiction. Moria Quirk’s narration is spot on to what I heard in my head when I was originally reading this book, so much so that I have begun to search for other books based on her narration of them.

I have listened to this entire series at least 4 times over, and the characters on the Custard are possibly my favorite (but just by a little, and maybe because the writer had the most time to tease out the characters in this universe, at least by release date). And that goes for the narration as well, although there’s nothing that’s been produced in this series that does not delight me.

So clearly you could call me a fan at this point and therefore I highly recommend anything by this author, and for that matter the narrator.
