Historia
If you are a lover of old-time radio and a fan of Orson Welles, you won't want to miss this treasure chest of legendary Orson Welles radio broadcasts! With his flair for the sensational and innovative, Welles captured audiences' attention with his 1930s CBS weekly drama series The Mercury Theatre on the Air, later renamed The Campbell Playhouse, which featured hour-long dramatizations of classic books. His 1938 production, The War of the Worlds (an H. G. Wells adaptation) was especially memorable, as were many other productions, each featuring talented voices and actors.

Not An Ultimate Collection
Revisado: 01-22-25
Definition of Ultimate: being the best or most extreme example of its kind. This collection definitely isn't this as it doesn't include many of Orson's best radio work. It also doesn't give much of a variety of his works. it is 60 hours long, so you might call it big, but Mr Welles' RADIO career went roughly from 1934 to 1962, so 60 hours is a rather small percentage of the man's work.
Another definition of ultimate: basic or fundamental. if you consider basic as the base or start, then this is roughly that as it contains The War of the Worlds which shot Orson to superstardom.
As an ultimate collection, it isn't.
What it does have is this:
Les Miserables
The Mercury Theater on the Air
The Campbell Playhouse
An Interview with H G Wells and Orson Welles
it does not have chapter labels so there is no way to tell what's what and nothing is in order (the 30 minute ones are Les Miserables, the 8 minute one is the interview, number 65 is War of the Worlds (quality is substandard on this one, compared to all the other copies I've listen to) and the rest you have to listen to the intro to get the introduction, which some of the episodes have edited out. the sound quality varies from just acceptable (as in it is clear enough to understand) to good.
This collection does not include any of Orson's other shows, including The Shadow, The Mercury Summer Theater on The Air (so this collection doesn't include the Hitchhiker), The Black Museum, The Lives of Harry Lime or Orson Welles Commentaries. It also doesn't include his Multiple guest apperances on other programs like The Jack Benny Show (Orson was the host for a month) and the Fred Allen Show, both of these being extremely good examples of Orson's Comedic ability which should be included in any "ultimate" Orson Welles Collection.
As a collection of Orson's Theater/Playhouse work, it's a nice collection. Orson's Les Miserables is a great adaptation of a truly miserable work, being in my opinion an excellent example of a polished turd. The STORY sucked but Orson did a good job. some of the episodes are on the mediocre or polished turd side (tale of two cities is another great example of a polished turd) so some are good and some are bad, depending if you like the original story or not, but Orson's production was always good.

Excelent! A must read for Larry Correia fans!
Revisado: 09-25-24
Lost Planet Homicide is LC's best series and this no exception! A thing about this book/series is like Correia pulled all of his silliness out of himself and placed it on a shelf. (As a side note, LC's Tom Stranger books are like Corrreia pulled all his seriouness out of himself and then wrote those books.)
Of course the worse part of this story is it is so utterly short!

The Merry Band of Pirates stopped the enemy from stealing a Sentinel, and destroyed its Elder starship, so why weren’t the Pirates planning a victory party? The enemy was not what they thought it was. It was much, much worse.

I consider this to be Alanson's Best book yet. If you are an ExForce fan and haven't gotten it yet, you'll feel silly for not having gotten it yet.

Great Rowling stuff, horrible introductions
Revisado: 08-31-24
A must have for Harry Potter Fans. Rowling's articles are fantastic and a must have for fans.
The introductions are entirely different, If you only saw the movies, read the books only once, read them a long time ago or love going down memory lane, the intros are fine. If you've read the books many times, the intros are ANNOYING! the intros are either a rehash of the books regards the content of the article or asking questions that the article answers (why bother?) The rehash intros are like "When Draco first met Harry, he tried to be Harry's friend but quickly found it wasn't going to happen."
To put it simply, the intros are useless fillers that have no purpose other than to get the length of the book to be longer, which is unnecessary. The Rowling material is fantastic and I'd happily buy a Rowling only version with none of the intros.

Historia
Skeeve is a magician’s apprentice (and a wanna-be thief) until an assassin’s bolt kills his master, Garkin. Along with Aahz, the green-scaled, purple-tongued demon and master magician summoned by Garkin, he sets out on a quest to get even. The road to vengeance is bound to prove rocky, however, because Skeeve can barely light a candle with his beginning magic, and Aahz has lost his own considerable magical abilities as a consequence of Garkin’s summoning spell.

I've read this book several times since i first read it in 1982 and it's great to see it in audiobook format. The reader is not a world class reader but there is nothing wrong with the performance.

Historia
This is the second volume collecting all of best-selling author Larry Correia's short stories, novelettes, and novellas. Correia's novels are known for their hard-hitting, no-holds-barred action sequences, in-depth worldbuilding, and vivid characterization. Now, Correia turns to the short form to deliver stories that take no prisoner.

The reader is atrocious!
Revisado: 07-04-24
The other reviews on this book are spot on. The reader is bad. he's better than non-AI computer reader/voice, but not by much. He does try to perform the characters, but his narrator skills are less than a computer reader/voice. in my 61 years, i have never met nor heard on the radio/tv any one who speaks this way so the narration is EXTREMELY unnatural.
i am very happy to listen to this one as Larry Correia has been consistently great! I'm also glad it's part of the plus catalogue as the reader is so bad it is worth a credit only if you are a die hard Larry Correia fan. This review also applies to TRE 2.
