A New Day Rising Book 2 RED RIVER OF THE NORTH
Revisado: 04-05-25
I am reading this series again of 7 books. It has been many years since I had completed them. Much I had forgotten.
The town of Blessing has not been formed as far as this book 2. Little by little the pieces are falling together. Who has come first leaving their homes from Norway and now a few more.
Looking forward to Book 3 Land to Call Home.

In this series finale by Lauraine Snelling, Astrid Bjorklund is trying to stop the epidemic ravaging South Dakota’s Red Bud Indian Reservation. Tribal elders remain suspicious of her until some begin to recover. Although Joshua Landsverk longs to fix his broken relationship with Astrid, he opposes her present work but won’t tell her why. Yet when a surprising act of kindness brings healing to the painful wrong inflicted years ago, will it be enough to rekindle their love?

A Heart For Home
Revisado: 03-31-25
It had become quite a full story with caring for the Indians and their very serious conditions. It brought the full story from before right through to the very end. I did feel badly for her first romance, but this had an ending of its own.
Mainly to me I had been waiting for the Blessing Hospital to be built and completed. A very nice ending and I do want to find the series of the Bjorklund's coming to America. I know her first husband did not live during the hardships of the winter. Will go back and search for this series. One of the Blessings.

No Distance Too Far
Revisado: 03-30-25
I am always enjoying Lauraine Snelling's Amish books. It is about all I am listening to on Audible. This one happens to be quite different though as far as the subjects nursing schooling is involved. Where it may be taking her in its future.
She is still such a very young girl or woman at eighteen leaving the family home from a small town of Blessing, North Dakota. It is a long train trip to Chicago for her six months of studying and not returning till her schooling will be over and they will call her Dr. Bjorklund.
It kept me wondering right up to the end where her future would be happening.
Will still move on to Book three loving the Narration of Stina Nielsen.

Wow, another one that just is so unpredictable set in the earlier times of the twenties, Love this one as I have all of Ms Hill's stories. I will tell you in each review that Anne Hancock is the very best Narrator of these Audible books.

Cornelia Copley's plans to finish college and get her degree in interior decoration are thwarted when she is unexpectedly called home due to her mother's illness. Heartbroken at the interruption and not understanding why her father can't see how important her education is, Cornelia soon finds there is plenty of trouble at home: Her mother has had a breakdown and is in a sanitarium; her father has lost his job and taken a lower position; and her brother Carey is going with a wild crowd.

This was a book I fell right in to and gave me a real settling down feeling. She was quite unhappy leaving college because her father was needing her at home to help with the family as mother was sick in a hospital not having a fast recovery.
I do not want to go into the story as it needs you to follow along.
Recommend this one and was surprised to hear at the end that it was written in 1924. I do like her stories in these kind of settings.
Anne Hancock is the very best narrator there is for her period of time. She also has a very fine singing voice when it comes up in this story, Soothing.

Had to come on here to help getting to the story.
Revisado: 02-12-25
This Narration is so superb. Starting I thought it was the early life of Meryl Streep acting. Then I knew this had nothing to do about Tom Lake. I have started again with the story to get it all straight. My eyesight has failed me with Macular Degeneration having shots to save the sight I have left. Typing is tough here.
Still some things are about family in New Hampshire and they are in Michigan with the mother telling the story.
Well I will start again and digest it much better. I thank all the reviews you have written.
I am off to enjoy Tom Lake.

Historia
In the summer of 1951, 18-year-old Maggie Esh is in need of some hope. Sweet-spirited and uncommonly pretty despite struggling with a debilitating illness, she is accustomed to being treated kindly by the young men of her Old Order Amish church district. Yet no one but Jimmy Beiler ever asks her out, and she always declines, certain he only pities her. To make matters worse, Dat has recently remarried, less than a year after Maggie's mother died. And while her stepmother is kind, she's much younger than Mamm, and she simply doesn't understand Maggie or her illness the way Mamm did.
