Historia
As a columnist for the New York Times who writes often about spiritual topics for a skeptical audience, Ross Douthat understands that many of us—whether we are agnostic, somewhat religious, or longtime believers—want to have more faith than we do. But we think we can't believe the way our ancestors did, knowing what we know now—can we? With clear and straightforward arguments, Believe shows how religious belief makes sense of the order of the cosmos and our place within it, illuminates the mystery of consciousness, and explains the persistent reality of encounters with the supernatural.

I don't read this type of book
Revisado: 04-10-25
Normally I find this type of book tedious, but I just about listened to this in one sitting. I immediately ordered the physical book. Concise, convincing, and doesn't resort to intellectual dishonesty, complex theology, or jargon. Doesn't gloss over any hard questions that might be posed by the religious skeptic, but addresses each question fairly and clearly. It's a really compelling rational case for religion generally, and a guide for choosing a faith tradition even in the face of uncertainty. Truly a book for everyone.

Historia
Meet Surbiton’s most famous residents: Tom, Barbara, Margo and Jerry. It is Tom Good's 40th birthday, and he feels thoroughly unfulfilled. If only he can discover what 'It' is, and if he can, will his wife Barbara agree to do 'It' with him? The subsequent and sudden transformation of the Goods’ home into a smallholding causes consternation for Margo and Jerry next door, and they decide it’s their duty to interfere. So begins The Good Life, the much loved classic sitcom starring Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal, Paul Eddington and Penelope Keith.

Don’t get this if you haven’t seen the show!
Revisado: 11-17-24
You’ll be confused if you haven’t seen the show. The narration is good, but sometimes fails to explain what’s going on when it should. Not a problem if you’ve seen the show, but confusing if you haven’t.

Historia
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Author needs to examine her own attitudes.
Revisado: 09-13-20
After telling a sad history of her family, the author seems to reveal that she's caught up in the same attitude as her family - fighting over her grandfather's wealth and justifying it because "the will was about money...but it was also about love" seemed absurd: the kind of empty, nonsensical justification that everyone in her family seems to make around money.
The author was educated on the family dime. She had health insurance. She had a nice allowance. She had wonderful opportunities and privilege. She got a book deal because of her family. I don't envy her the horrific life circumstances - I don't think anyone would trade a healthy family for the trappings of wealth - but there's not doubt that she's benefitted greatly because of her accident of birth. Squabbling over her grandfather's estate just made her seem as shallow and blind as the rest of the sad, sad family.
